About this deal

years is a life time in digital photography and it’s time for Olympus to put the E-M5 into the archives.

One the trade-off for using contrast detection is that the viewfinder blackout time between frames during bursts is noticeably longer compared to PDAF-equipped cameras, which hinders following moving subjects. It’s still pleasingly lightweight, meaning it pairs well with the best Micro Four Thirds lenses – remember that the E-M10 can use Olympus, OM System and Panasonic MFT lenses interchangeably, as it’s all the same lens mount. The Olympus OM-D E-M10 is the third camera in the company's OM-D range and represents another tier in the lineup - sitting below the E-M5 and the even more expensive E-M1. Again it can handle relatively gentle subject movement with no problem, but it’s not going to be the best option for shooting energetic, erratic children.

Until OM System comes out with an OM-10, it will remain one of the primary options to anyone looking for an affordable, entry-level mirrorless camera.

I’d still happily shoot at up to ISO 6400 if necessary, but would avoid the extended higher settings if possible. I like the idea of having a tilting touch screen though, so that's something that draws me to this camera. As much as I want the cool features and compact size of the Olympus, after reading the full review, I am leaning towards upgrading to the Canon T5i.

As the E-M10 is a newer camera relatively speaking, you have the option of both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. The Face Priority/Eye Priority AF now even recognises faces in profile or downturned positions, ensuring accurate and reliable focus. IQ wise, I like them all but the Olympus colors and IQ always do it for me and I never am left wanting or regretting taking one out. Let's better appreciate what we have, consider what gives us joy, and get out there to take some photos.

The Olympus booth was relatively quiet compared to the madhouses at Nikon and Canons' stands, which made it easier to get up close and personal with the company's new lenses. I would just like to know what ‘mode’ you shot the photos for this review in or is that a trade secret! If you expect to be shooting bursts regularly, it’s worth getting a fast UHS-II type SD card: using one, I found I could rattle off at least 27 frames at top speed in raw and JPEG before the camera slowed down.Is there any special function I need to enable where AF would work better / at least faster what I am seeing. One major change, though, comes with the redesign of the rear screen, which can now be flipped down 180° to face forwards beneath the cameras for selfies. The E-M10 has “3 Axis” IS instead of the higher end bodies “5-Axis” but it works almost just as well. Update: Amidst a slew of announcements yesterday, Adobe also made final release versions of Camera Raw and DNG Converter 8. For years, the system maintained three separate lines – at the top, the E-M1 cameras, which were the pro-level flagships.

I have said it a million times about these Olympus bodies but they have something about them that are special.

I have noticed in many review articles, the person doing the review does not state what shooting mode they took the shots in, which makes it difficult for beginners to attempt. This might disappoint users of those older models who’d like to upgrade to the 20MP sensor, but it’s no different to its clearest rivals such as the Nikon Z50, Panasonic Lumix G100 or Canon EOS R100.
