Description

Amrut whisky has gained global recognition with a series of awards and accolades and they continue to win over whisky lovers the world over.

Fusion has been picking up awards ever since it first appeared in 2009 including getting a rating of 97 out of 100 from Jim Murray in his Whisky Bible 2010 making it the third best whisky in the world that year. Both unpeated Indian barley and peated Scottish barley are distilled and matured separately in American oak barrels for at least four years before being married together in American oak for a further three months. The manufacturing process involves the use of six 10,000-litre stainless steel fermenters, two unique conical 5,000-litre copper Pot stills with copper condensers and new and used ex- Bourbon barrels. Amrut followed the Scottish model of whisky production after consulting experts from the Scotch Whisky industry.

Winter temperatures rarely drop below 12 °C (54 °F), and summer temperatures seldom exceed 34–35 °C (<100 °F). According to Kumar, the whisky starts "reaching its peak in four years", after which it has to be tasted regularly because "by five years it starts to get too much tannin".

This single malt whisky is produced with Indian barley using water flowing from the Great Himalayas at Amrut distillery outside Bangalore, India. It is marketed without an age statement and has been matured for approximately four years before it is bottled at 46% abv.

Launched in 2009, the following year whisky connoisseur Jim Murray declared the Bangalore Amrut Fusion Single Malt the world’s third-best whisky in that year’s edition of his annual Whisky Bible. Made from selected barley grown in the North West of India and nurtured by waters flowing the Great Himalayas, enrobed in wonderful fruity notes. According to head of international operations Ashok Chokalingam, "In our belief, it is not all about the influence of Sherry in the whisky. Amrut mainly uses American white oak casks, but since the distillery has garnered in international reputation and the demand has risen, they have also started to use sherry casks and other types of casks. It is carefully mashed and distilled in small batches to preserve the natural aroma and matured in oak barrels in a unique tropical condition, at an altitude of 3,000 feet above sea level at Bangalore, the garden city of India.

Nice lightly sweet caramel and maybe slight vanilla, and balanced overall, and I didn't feel any "bite" or harshness from the 46% strength.

A31 to AB38, AB40 to AB56, IV1 to IV28, IV30 to IV32, IV36, IV40, IV52 to IV54, IV63, KW1 to KW14, KA27, KA28, PA21 to PA38, PH4 to PH41, PH49, PH50, BT (Northern Ireland). To create Fusion, both unpeated Indian barley and peated Scottish barley are distilled and matured separately in American oak barrels for more than four years. I had the opportunity to taste a number of Amrut whiskies at a local Whiskey Bar and Museum, so I knew that I already liked Amrut.
