About this deal

The display measures 70mm by 42mm by 12mm thick, comes shipped in a padded presentation gift box and has a signed certificate of authenticity printed onto the back of the display itself. Considering how well the leather took the paint I'm considering upgrading the whole body suit to leather pieces. I added some black lines to suggest jointed segments, and sprayed them with the same acrylic topcoat that I used on the suit, just to be on the safe side. Also to help with the heat the thinner the better- 2mm-3mm thickness or less is realistic and ideal.

On top of the head the actors had to wear a large lamp, fixed to the head on the left, the right and behind. It had initially been hoped to illuminate the halogen bulb but on the first attempt the bulb exploded. Although to help hide the back join, we used some spare leather already sprayed silver from my leather pants and folded it over the point were the belt met once with velcro and it masked it much better. Then I found some vintage 1930's radio speaker cloth that had a great crisscross pattern that looked close to the diagonal mesh used in the onscreen prop.

Originally he was to be paid as a non-speaking role, but he said he pushed the issue, to the point of not opening his mouth when he needed to, so he could stress the point that he was learning the script lines and by using his mouth to work the Cybercontroller's mouth at the appropriate times, he was in essence "speaking", and therefor in a speaking role. An original 1960s Cyberman helmet used in the production of the long running BBC television series Doctor Who, during the reign of Patrick Troughton as The Doctor.

I used metal cutters to hack out a portion slightly larger than the opening and epoxied it to the back. Once wearing the joint coils and the suit (and with some help from a few friends) I measured out the lengths of what tubing was needed where: 4 for the back, two for the front, 2 for each earm, and 2 for each leg/sides.So after looking at the wide range of Doctors and Companion cosplayers out there I felt we were sorely lacking for Who villains. Still not quite sure what the BBC used for these as they certainly look like they had pretty full range of leg and arm motion on these. Here's what I did to build up the Cyber Chrome Handle-Headed 1970's goodness over the course of 2007 and 2008.

The little "cups" on the fingertips are made from strips of comic book backer boards, duct-taped together and then epoxied to the ends of the fingers. But the Tomb Helmets were harder to come by and the Invasion Cyberman had tougher to replicate pipe/tubes and the Chest unit was a different style that looked trickier to replicate so I ended up by process of elimination going with what might be my favorite Cyberman design (because hey it's the only 70s version! Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis’ original script described the Cybermen as ‘tall, thin, clad in a silver link one piece suit’. The goal was to retain the basic silhouette of the Cyberman without distorting things too much with my giant head. When it came to making the "chin", for example, I put my head through the neck area, with the faceplate only attached at the top.I took the button-shaped part of the connectors and sewed them into the seams along the clavicle of my Cyberman suit, so I can hang the console from my shoulders just like fastening a pair of overalls. It took a few attempts to get good looking 'false frame' or each but after getting something close I glued all three over the trays/box. Although it is widely assumed that the Cybermen hands were of skin tones, accounts suggest that they were actually coloured with a silver-blue tinge by makeup designer Gillian James.
