I see people saying that this is indistinguishable from Givenchy Gentleman, that they are exactly alike.

Who are you trying to convince here with your rant or are you just trying to use this as an outlet to validate your views? You get a very lovable dry down with a very strong sweet tobacco, oak moss, sandalwood, patchouli and musk - the inevitable 5 of the 80's.Personal opinion: it's the green apple that people don't like in the opening, and I am one of those people, it's a random and unpleasant tartness right out of the gate, I don't pretend to know what Boss was thinking with that. Further update: I've since purchased the EDT of this, and it has a bit more character than the aftershave, and it is quite a bit stronger. I don´t remember when, but sometime later (weeks, maybe months), I got my Boss Number One in AFTER SHAVE version. Can you imagine a small, slim, shy 14 year old boy walking into class smelling of the original Boss No1?

I experimented layering it with all of my favorite vanilla fragrances and it works like a charm with two of my Top favorites! Hugo Boss Number One is perfect for office wearing but I could see the wearer becoming pretty bored with it, so definitely make it part of a rotation. Longevity, I can't believe this as it only happened to me with Nasomatto, it's 13hours since I sprayed it and it's still on my wrist.

Strong at first, oddly sweet for a man's fragrance, not particularly lasting and just a hint of something very slightly artificial about it. It has the power protection that seemed to dominate that Era, but much more floral than others from that time. I don't get the brutal strength some people here describe; it projects nicely for the first few hours, all in all lasting around 7 hours with one spray on my wrist. Although the new reformulation has altered the scent from the original formula which was a lot stronger!Hugo Boss smells well blended and after the slightly harsher citrus opening it mellows down to an elegant blend of wood, musk, flowers, honey with an animalic touch. It then develops into a warm and masculine heart note of honey, cinnamon, and jasmine, adding a sophisticated and sensual dimension.
