The set, originally spread across two vinyl discs, but now on one CD draws from Lizzy's six studio albums released between 1973 and 1977, but majors on their '76 magnus opus "Jailbreak" which alone contributes five of the seventeen tracks. The large format (12″ x 12″) package includes sleeve notes with new interviews by Mark Blake and a booklet packed with rare photos and memorabilia. Well, we finally (officially) can see what was edited, removed or over-dubbed on the original release. One thought that really stuck with me throughout this box set was that it documents a great band, at the absolute height of their powers. However, one revelation included in the booklet, that I didn’t know previously concerns Southbound‘s inclusion on the live album.

He claims to have created some audience sounds from a keyboard-triggered tape loop in a similar manner to a Mellotron or sampling keyboard. Therefore proving that the need to overdub performances was merely a vanity project on the part of the musicians! It’s hard to believe that the bands’ classic line up was only together for four years, and in that time delivered a quartet of studio albums as well as this live set too. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic described the album as "one of the best double live LPs of the 70s", and "a true live classic", containing more energy and power than the original studio albums. Whenever there is a poll of the greatest live albums of all time, the original album is always there.

With the 3 Hammersmith nights from 1976, 2 Philadelphia shows from 1977, the Toronto show from 1977 and the Rainbow theatre show from 1978, there’s a lot to listen to. Add to it such strong album cuts as "Massacre", "Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed", "Warrior", "Suicide", and "The Rocker", and you have the ultimate Lizzy album. Brian Downey is THE most underrated drummer in rock - he shines all the way through this, Phil is brilliant, hardly missing a word or a note, Robbo is Robbo, but the understated flair shines through, and Gorham shows why he was essential to the band. With a mix of established, [then] new and less well known album tracks the set-list contains Lizzy's biggest hits: "Jailbreak", "Dancing In The Moonlight", "The Boys Are Back In Town", and "Don't Believe a Word" about which nothing more needs to be said.On the album, the band segues immediately from "Cowboy Song" into "The Boys Are Back in Town", on the line "a cowboy's life is the life for me" – the last chord of the former was the first of the latter, although their studio versions were recorded as separate songs. a stuffed toy mascot Robbo plonked on his amp-head each night) they threw skinny, angular shapes as Lynott strafed the crowd with a beam reflected from his bass guitar’s mirror scratch-plate.
