By the time Legolas is surfing a dead elephant after taking it out, it’s impressive to think about the sheer scale of this movie. The cast is just as brilliant as everything else, Elijah Wood and Sean Astin as Frodo and Sam, Viggo Mortensen as Aragon, Ian Mckellen as Gandalf, Liv Tyler as Arwin, Cristopher Lee as Saruman, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, John Rhys Davis as Gimly and all the rest of the cast are perfectly suited for their roles. As for the extended cut, without providing a frame-by-frame analysis of the addendums, the additional footage consists mostly of things trimmed to get the film near a three-hour running time. In theory, if this was done as an overall correction, you could just knock down the green channel a couple of points to compensate (essentially adding magenta). As for the colour (color) issue - it didn't bother me as the changes seemed minor in respect to the long length of the films, and the 'feel' of only some of the scenes.

This film doesn't play the heroes as longtime friends (and really, on a journey this massive, one would have to become friends, or the path would be too insufferable), as they quarrel and bicker on occasion. And finally, the track that will probably get the most play, the audio commentary with the cast, including Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Liv Tyler, John Rhys-Davies, Billy Boyd, Dominic Monaghan, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Sean Bean, Bernard Hill, Miranda Otto, David Wenham, Brad Dourif, Karl Urban, John Noble, Craig Parker and Andy Serkis. The result is a colorful, sublime presentation not seen since these films were in theaters, maybe not even then. Until then, what we have here is the most comprehensive package available, with the best presentations available. Watching Serkis's commitment as he flops around in a freezing-cold river explains why Gollum has become an indelible cinematic figure.

covers all the Kiwi locations of the third film, while Middle Earth Atlas allows the user to track the paths followed through Middle Earth in the course of the movie. All the supplements are the same, and they include everything from the four disc sets previously released, along with the Costa Botes documentaries – the ones issued with the two-disc EE sets. In the middle chapter of this historic movie trilogy, the Fellowship is broken, but its quest to destroy the One Ring continues. But the story works its magic in crafting a world so unusual, yet strangely familiar through its decaying powers and landscapes, as well as the multitude of personalities, it draws the viewer in, to get to know and care about the story, easily and painlessly. concentrates on Howard Shore and includes footage from the scoring stage, while “The Soundscapes of Middle-Earth” (21 min. It’s difficult to give an overall score for the video presentation of the trilogy here, as we have yet to discern the implications of the colour timing changes on Fellowship. A trilogy of classic, frankly must-see movies that transport you to another world, rich with all of the lush landscapes and epic effects that we have, more recently, seen in the likes of Avatar, but also boasting well-developed characters, decent dialogue and a multi-layered storyline to hold it all together.
