Description

Another mistake women make is that when they do play the game, they do so safely and within the boundaries. And while apologizing is used to simply ease the tension and avoid conflict, it erodes both a woman’s self-confidence and the confidence others have in her. Because we've been so conditioned to be pleasing to others, accusing a woman of behaving in an unpleasing manner is like an automatic shut off button that manipulative people use against us. Everything from the way we carry ourselves to the way we speak and even the way we look (makeup, hair, etc. You also put yourself in danger of reacting emotionally instead of truly listening to the message he is trying to convey.

In the bestselling tradition of Play Like a Man, Win Like a Woman, comes this groundbreaking book offering advice every woman needs to know to stop sabotaging her own career - and get ahead in the workplace. In other words, when someone doesn’t have a sponsor, they are less likely to get a highly-influential position. Like games, the business has winners and losers, so when women ignore the game, they unknowingly create an environment in which they lose. I'd downloaded several other career advice audiobooks before this one, as I was looking for career advice because I'm a new grad starting my first corporate job.First, It made me feel that being a Girl itself is a guilt, acting like a girl, thinking like a girl is not recommended in work place. Frankel reveals the unique set of behaviors that women learn in girlhood that threaten to sabotage them as adults. If you have visible tattoos, you have made a terrible life decision (according to her) and you deserve to suffer through the heat to cover up with long sleeves. While that book explores the problems women face with confidence, this book shows you how to address and conquer those problems in the workplace. Girls are protected from overcoming many barriers, like failure, and consequently there is a kind of emotional stunting that we turn a blind eye to and justify through the idea of inherent gender characteristics.

Obviously, if something is heinously wrong, tell someone, but you need to weigh the benefit of pointing out minor infractions against the possible consequences. This is a used book - there is no escaping the fact it has been read by someone else and it will show signs of wear and previous use. There’s some useful hard truths in this book about what people perceive, but I do worry it perpetuates the belief women need to change how they behave and appear rather than truly educating everyone to value difference in a modern, inclusive way. Of course, inequality still exists and begins as soon as women graduate college and enter the workforce.

Throughout the book I agreed with some of the topics raised by Frankel (which are actually included in many books I will review later on) but strongly disagreed with many. We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child. She spoke with a delicate Southern accent and had an alluring way of cocking her head and smiling when listening to others.
