Description

There is a Forward by Vita Alaya which introduces the Seeker to the concepts behind the deck as well as its purpose.

Snag your copy of the deck from Liminal 11 and check out the accompanying Modern Witch tarot journal releasing soon. In addition, the disclosure serves to protect our legitimate interests, which outweigh the interests of all parties involved, in the effective assertion or enforcement of our payment claim in accordance with Art. Tarot, psychic, or other divination readings must include a tangible good, such as photos of the tarot spread, audio/video of a reading, or text of the reading. If the processing is for other purposes, you have the right to object only if there are reasons arising from your particular situation.

I love how Lisa has combined tradition with diversity and fashion to create unique, colourful, bold, ‘badass’ cards ideal for modern, innovative and inspirational readings. The extra card titled Everything Is Fine is identical to the 10 of Swords, and though no divinatory meaning is assigned to it, presumably its title says it all. The Modern Witch minor arcana features characters ranging in age, race, gender and such-like, no longer are stereotypes on the agenda – fashion is the new fundamental as this deck includes an awesome array of colourful clothing, outfits, shoes, accessories and fabulously, funky fashion items.

The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. While some might see it as being somewhat akin to 'comic book’ art, the images don't have the tedious homogeneity of comics – every character depicted is unique with subtle details defining their appearance and expression. But I don’t entirely understand the adaptation of the Wheel of Fortune, for instance, or of the Hanged One. While tarot cards trace back all the way to the 15th century, and divination even earlier, as with many things, they’re having a season of resurgence, and we are not mad at it!This particular piece of work seemed to resonate with many of the people surrounding Lisa and she came to realise that through her pain and misery, she had finally arrived somewhere ‘on the other side’. A modern tarot deck may strike you as an oxymoron; according to Robert Place in The Tarot: History, Symbolism, and Divination, the cards developed in northern Italy in the early fifteenth century. It was at this point that Lisa began illustrating this very card, incorporating her modern ideas and flair for fashion within her work. If you have any questions regarding the collection, processing or use of your personal data, for information, correction, restriction or deletion of data as well as revocation of given consents or objection to a certain use of data, please contact us directly via the contact data in our imprint. Modern Witch Tarot is a magical take on traditional tarot symbolism, inspired by fashion and modern witches from every walk of life.

Included within The Modern Witch Tarot are two extra cards, Lisa has added a footnote at the end of her guidebook explaining that some readers may wish to exchange the ten of swords for her alternative cards ‘Everything Is Fine’. Unauthorized use and/or duplication of this material without express and written permission from this site’s owner is strictly prohibited. In the case of the Chariot, the modernizing twist feels like it really adds something to the card; in some other cards, it doesn’t feel purposeful, and can end up feeling like more or less the same card as before, just with a different costume. I love that fact that Lisa tackles the ‘isms’ (sexism, ageism, racism and so on) head-on by giving tradition a little twist and I adore her artwork within this deck as the key symbolism still remains. First published in 2019 it is still a firm bestseller because it is a truly diverse and inclusive artistic interpretation of our modern culture. Listings or claims may not offer medical advice, and may not be intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. When holding the deck in hand, you feel a substantial difference that usually only shows up in decks with larger-sized cards.

And that’s really the core of the Modern Witch Tarot, for women and femmes to see themselves represented in the cards; a deck that looks like its readers- across ages, bodies, races, and gender expressions. The Minor Arcana is divided into four suits – Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles, with 10 number cards and 4 Court cards. I’d say it’s also a good deck to pull out at psychic fairs, with nervous clients, or anywhere your querent’s reaction is an unknown quantity and you want to put them at ease. The Modern Witch Tarot is a new look at an old classic, it's fun without being feckless, cool without being shallow, and special without being precious. If we put our most recommended books of the year into a tarot deck, there’s three in particular we would hope to draw. The Major Arcana features a colourful array of non-stereotypical characters, offering a modern and much more diverse take upon the traditional tarot. Modern Witch Tarot is a stylish, fashion-forward interpretation of traditional Rider-Waite-Smith tarot by acclaimed Long Lost and Submerged illustrator Lisa Sterle.
