About this deal

I was very lonely at the little school, but I made friends at the comprehensive and got on all right.

That’s the temperature our planetary oven is currently set to, and if we do nothing, that’s the temperature our slowly-heating oven will eventually reach. That also translates to: Grace, our protagonist, does not use love to procrastinate from her mission for justice. I would like to thank Netgalley and Orion Publishing Group for an advance copy of All Fall Down, the ninth novel to feature DI Helen Grace of the Southampton Police.

If you love tense, steady to fast paced thrillers with action and excitement around each corner, you have got to read this series. Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. Just like the way that Isabel describes the pestilence, All Fall Down will sniff its way around your body, it will slip itself under your skin and bury itself deep in your bones and your heart. Like the years after the First World War, the years after the Black Death were ones of great social change. I’ve read a lot of gloomy takes on climate breakdown over the last year, and it is easy to feel downhearted.

Adoro este autor e apesar de não ser o melhor livro que li de MJ Arlidge, achei-o bastante acima da média no género de thriller e gostei bastante da história e de todo o enredo. Because I absolutely loved the idea of a place where all the embassy houses happen to be on the same street and for each step you make, you could be visiting the other side of the world.Isabel’s personal experience of the plague, which wiped out about a third of the population when it struck medieval England, is depicted so vividly you can almost touch and smell her world as you read. All Fall Down kept me guessing, second guessing and doubting myself throughout and I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this book. Because it combined a concept that I know all too well about together with the joys of the thriller genre and an ounce of conspiracy. She also meets her brother Jamie's old friend, Alexei Volkov, who is the son of a senior Russian embassy worker. However, even a slightly inferior book from this author is better than some of the other offerings out there.

So sit back, make yourself comfortable and have a look around – hopefully you will find a book here that is destined to become one of your best-loved reads too. Now I will be honest – this did not feel as fast paced as some of the previous books, and the body count and mode of dispatch perhaps not as grotesque as some of it’s predecessors either. The killer, who had previously attempted to abduct 2 young girls, managed to avoid capture, and his belongings were found at the seaside, some miles away, giving the impression he had committed suicide. They’re all rather individual, and I believe that with time, and the following sequels, their backstories will surely be developed in greater detail.
