I am too late and cannot afford to hunt down very old bottles with use of great effort and sum of money and possibly questionable results). It does feel marvelous to me at least, and it dries further into its base of vetiver and sandalwood, it seduces me even more so. There is a nice balance between the lightness of the powder, white flowers and sharp aldehydes with the depth of the woody sandalwood and amber. However, I also have a vintage bottle of Lanvin eau Arpege and it is divine and transports you back in time to old Hollywood and all things beautiful and ladylike. There’s a light dust of leather, and delicious florals - the lashings of a 10 hour drydown of an expensive classic perfume, but the ‘drydown’ note begins almost immediately in Arpege. The dab on pure parfum is sweeter and more of a long lasting floral powder with a distinct benzoin note and plenty of amber.I do discern a slight dirtiness, a musky spice or incense aroma, but it's tempered with warm vanilla and a delectably convincing iris note. Dry down is smoother (as expected) with the powdery feel of Iris and a slight animalic note (unexpected, like citrus and urine).
