Description

This book is not a good book for teaching children directional reading because not all of the words go left to right in a straight line.

Everyone related to the feeling of being caught out, and plenty of people empathised with the midnight fridge raids! Thinking he can hide the evidence, the little boy washes up the plate and the knife and goes back to bed. It is so engaging and memorable as one of my tutees recommended it as she loved it when she watched it at school.

Furthermore, Miachel Rosen himself has a Youtube channel where he reads the poem in an incredibly funny and engaging manner. The poet, Michael Rosen, is so very enthusiastic it becomes infectious and it is all through something as simple as eating chocolate cake.

This is a great book for use in schools when teaching children about past tense or how to recount something. Also, this may be a great time to note that I apparently am not capable of beating eggs to stiff peaks. He is currently Professor of Children’s Literature at Goldsmiths, University of London where he co-devised and teaches critical approaches to reading on an MA in Children’s Literature, having done the same at Birkbeck, University of London. Place the cake on a large serving plate, then coat the outer sides of the cake with the ganache, ensuring that there is an even coating all round.First we went to the library to check out the book, and then set out to make this strange concoction. It's been a pleasure seeing the character growth for all the characters as they start to become more three dimensional. DISCLAIMER: This is a transcript for a video of Michael performing the poem/book, not a transcript from the actual poem/book itself.

It’s a picture book version of Rosen’s original poem, Chocolate Cake, from his collection ‘Poems and Stories About My Family’, but unfortunately it’s been re-written. Celaena's love for chocolate cake is one I can get behind and the only reason this post has been written. As this book is written from the authors point of view remembering something that happened as a child. Add the milk/ cream of tartar solution to the oil, egg and vanilla mixture and stir, then add to the dry ingredients. Together with Kevin Waldron, Michael’s spoken poem masterpiece is released as a picture book for the very first time, offering a whole extra bite of the hilarious, characterful classic.

The illustrations, complete with scrawled sound-effects and onomatopoeic bits, are very rough and ready, and so weren't completely to my taste. I think it would be fun for the students to come up with their own noises and obstacles to sneak past.
