Read the triggers on these books and the Dancer and the masks books because if you're sensitive to dark and twisted content then these aren't for you. I don't often like to bounce between the past and the present but I'm really grateful that Bea chose to splice the two together. Cyn is a true healer but not only for the physical but for the entire human being and I think through her healing others she heals herself. I think they would have hurt her again because while they have accepted her as one of them, they have not accepted her as an equal. The characters are well developed and scenes referenced from other books in the saga fit right into place without inconsistencies.

I'm going to need a huge redemption arc in the second book because even after their internal revelations, they were still quick to anger.To explain, it's set in a contemporary world but we've got clairvoyant characters who see visions of the future and an herbalist FMC whose so good at her craft some could argue she's a green witch!

Each of the guys are so different but yet the same as in none of them will admit how they feel about Cyn especially Carrick who treats her like she’s his biggest enemy, but you can see through the cracks in his armour and you know how he really feels for her .Cyn has been mute since the death of her mother and to finally know what she's thinking in her head and what she's been through has been eye opening. It may be a love-hate relationship between most of them, but the tension is so delicious I just love them. Bea takes a really relationally immersive approach here- with a lot of flashbacks to help shape our understanding for their dynamics. Fortunately, Bea has such a keen ability to integrate humanity and charisma into even the darkest of her heroes, and Debts and Diamonds paints a compelling, empathetic, and complicated history between these four characters. I mention this in every review but idc, Bea's writing is beautiful, she is one of the few authors whose writing can captivate me so thoroughly with every book of hers I read!
