About this deal

The Dos Maderas PX 5+5 rum is a high-quality alcoholic beverage made from a blend of rums from Barbados and Guyana. The bottle has a midnight blue color combined with gold, which is supposed to evoke a touch of luxury and twilight in Barbados. The aroma of sherry is melded into the molasses, and I would not disagree very firmly with someone those who believes the nose should have been scored even higher than I have done. The individual distillates are matured for 5 years in the Caribbean before they mature for a further three years in former Dos Maderas 5+3 rum barrels. I get light and short aromas of red grapes, red grape skin, grape-flavored cough syrup, raisins, cinnamon, figs, and vanilla.

It is unique becuase of its triple ageding process where for 5 initial years the rum is aged in the Carribean in oak casks.

The rum matures for the first five years in American oak barrels in the Caribbean until it is shipped to Europe, Spain. But keep with it, the sweetness is obvious but the taste and smell does mature as you you make your way through the bottle. They don’t go into more details such as which distillery/ies the Barbadian rum came from, and what marks were used to make the Guyanese rum. In fact, I can taste the sherry so clearly that my feeling is that rather than the sherry casks acting to enhance the flavour, the sherry is at times pushing the rum aside and dominating the spirit. The Dos Maderas (5+5) PX is a rum of Caribbean origin ( Barbados and Guyana to be exact), which after first aging in for five years in American oak casks in the Caribbean, is then transported to Spain to spend an additional five years in Spanish oak (sherry casks). I hope to see the day when brands with additives would be required or allowed to mention the amount they used on their labels.S. FDA (as I’ve been told by brand owners), they won’t allow this because consumers might mistake the additives on the label as some sort of supplement.

Maybe I am getting old and need new glasses, then again, maybe I wouldn’t need new glasses if labels are designed with proper colour contrast in mind. The region of Spain where the winery is located has a climate perfectly suited for wine and is known as Europe's wine cellar. This double aging process gives the rum a unique flavor and aroma that make it ideal for enjoying alone or in cocktails.Dark amber in color, this intriguing rum offers fig and raisin notes at first, leading to rich, ripe fruit on the palate. Enjoyed with advantageously in a suitable glass, but also very used by professional bartenders in Div. The aroma which rises from the glass is full of rich caramel, pungent dry fruit, and sweet candied baking spices.
