About this deal

Well I worked with publishers for about ten years writing kids’ books, but ultimately it was by accident that I got into self-publishing. I just love that kind of thing happening regardless of any knock-on effect, but people then become more than readers of the book, they become invested in the community as well, so that when a new book comes out they’re straight on it and chatting about it. Again this was led by people just asking for merchandise, so I thought since I’ve been so well supported in the area, we could use this as a way of giving a bit back into the local area.

Guest appearances by the DCI Logan team are the cherry on the top of this high intensity crime showdown. It’s another blast of a story – a totally unbelievable but absolutely entertaining episode which appears to be the last. So in summary there is a hostage situation that takes Hoon by surprise while he’s off in the toilet, there is action, there are Christmas carols and explosive Santa’s…. When I wrote a second one then the sales of the first book skyrocketed, and by the time I wrote the third one I was earning more in one day on these three books than I was in six months on all my traditionally published books combined. The whole series ran out of steam in book 3 and this book, the fourth in the series is weak both in content and plot.

The shockingly brilliant use of every profanity ever created makes this Christmas hostage situation absolutely hilarious (but, if you’re easily offended I don’t imagine this one’s for you). When I first introduced the then Detective Superintendent Bob Hoon in my DCI Logan crime fiction series, he was so foul-mouthed and unpleasant as to feel almost irredeemable. Not for the faint of heart as the author finds new ways to bring the gore while flavoring the dialogue with a steady barrage of cursing. If there is one line that had me spilling my whisky it was the description of the skinny jeans, possibly my biggest (of many) chuckles. I suppose it’s been like a tour of all my writing inspirations as well, so it goes through books I’ve read, films I’ve seen, and there’s little winks and nods to those, down all the way to things like how my daughter’s really into anime and there’s little nods to that in there.
