You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!

In a dyslexia-friendly format, this is a magical and gently comic tale of friendship and thinking of others. She goes to visit her Grandma on holiday but little does she know she is in for a surprise which will teach her to change her ways. Her work has appeared on screen, with Pig-Heart Boy, which was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal, being adapted into a BAFTA-award-winning TV serial. It’s all well and good grandma turning Ellie into a cat but grandma soon knows she has made a mistake in losing her temper; the switch bodies spell has a time limit - if Ellie doesn't find the ring in a day, she will stay a cat forever! Ellie discovers that she has switched bodies with Jolly the cat and has only one day to find Grandma’s lost ring otherwise she will remain a cat forever. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. There are very few illustrations in this book which I didn't like but a varied range of vocabulary to boost the children's literacy development. The grandma does her best to make Ellie feel at home but Ellie's bad behaviour has her turn Ellie into a cat.

A cautionary tale of brats, cats and a little bit of magic from much loved and best-selling author Malorie Blackman, brought to life in a delightfully fun reading by actor Esme Sears. In 2005, Malorie was honoured with the Eleanor Farjeon Award in recognition of her distinguished contribution to the world of children's books. Ellis meets some interesting characters, spiders and rats, and manages to make friends with them and encourage them to help her complete a task set by her grandma. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books.

Ellie soon realises that a girl trapped in a cat’s body needs some help and that she must learn some manners and make some friends fast. So with a little bit of magic and some help from Jolly the cat, Grandma's going to make sure that Ellie changes her ways. This short tale was first published in a different format as “Elaine, You’re a Brat” but this new incarnation under publisher Barrington Stoke’s “super readable” label and with their trademark dyslexia-friendly layout and typeface and Matt Robertson’s brilliantly lively and humorous illustrations is fully justified and should prove to be an enjoyable read for children of 8+ who prefer short chapter books. She has been described by The Times as ‘a national treasure’ and was the Children’s Laureate 2013-15. Her unhappiness instead of being obvious to adults is seen as bad behaviour and is considered a "brat " rather than seeing the real problem she has. Ellie the Cat is no ordinary novel about a cat, it’s about friendship and understanding and had a nice twist in the tale.

So with a little bit of magic and some help from Jolly the cat, Grandma’s going to make sure that Ellie changes her ways.Malorie Blackman, illustrated by Matt Robertson Ellie is not happy to be staying with her grandmother. She has been awarded numerous prizes for her work, including the Red House Children’s Book Award, and has also been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Ellie and the Cat is a fun, middle grade story perfect for children just starting to read chapter books. Ellie is the rudest, most spoilt child her grandma has ever met and it’s time that she learnt a lesson! I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly!
