We reviewed the UK Ultra HD Blu-ray release of The Fast and the Furious on an LG 55B7 Dolby Vision 4K Ultra HD OLED TV with an LG UP970 Dolby Vision 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. Blacks offer the most improvement with inkier, silkier shadows, but the overall picture is also darker with generally average delineation within the darkest corners. Meanwhile, dialogue is crystal clear and precise from beginning to end and never drowned out by the vehicular mayhem. I also liked the climactic daytime street race between Diesel and Walker, which is truly white-knuckle viewing.

The riff on 'Break is not such a bad thing, giving the film a strong enough backbone to peddle its NOS-injected wares, and affording the young and upcoming Vin Diesel room to go larger than life, exploding onto the screen as a fully fledged star sporting a raw attitude that is still relatively rare to see these days. the cars and across the nighttime sky -- play well against the warm city colors and the green neon lights under the vehicles.Almost two decades later and, looking back at where it all began and the results are surprisingly good, with this 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray giving the 2001 film a new lease of life, delivering stunning usage of HDR and WCG, and a thrilling accompanying DTS:X track.

Some of that ambient noise and the echo of the roaring engines running through the streets expands into the front heights, creating an amusing half-dome effect. car's cockpit or right along the side of the road where all that's missing is a swish of high speed air.

The racing sequences are infectiously noisy, bringing the streets into your very living room, and the track is excellent. The new lossless and object-based DTS-X mixes are consistently excellent, ranging from A- (for some of the earlier films) to A and A+ (for the newer mixes). Considering budget, vintage and, well, the shape it was in when it was released (it was a flashy, stylish film, but hardly boasted big budget trappings) fans could not have possibly hoped for better.

Since the first film was released, the franchise has expanded into other forms of media, including television series, video games, and more. Admittedly, the upscaled transfer, struck from a 2K digital intermediate, isn't a leaps and bounds upgrade, clocking in at about same the speed as other franchise entries on UHD.

the background throughout the panel are various buildings and trees, the ones on the bottom almost looking like X-ray renditions. Yet we continue to flock to these movies, our appetite to see all makes and models of automobile crashed, smashed and blown to bits apparently insatiable.
