Bastard characters we’re supposed to hate but Millar can’t stop indulging himself with them to make them truly difficult to love? But there is still hope, for even as the world unravels, mortal enemies unite and the true meaning of Gottfaust’s prophecy is revealed in this, the double-length finale to our EPIC saga. The new creation comes on the heels of May’s release of Netflix’s first adaptation of a Millar work, Jupiter’s Legacy. Now, before I go any further I want to back up a bit and clarify some points about my relationship with Mark Millar’s work. Quem sabe uma hora eu faça uma análise mais acadêmica e profunda sobre isso, mas acho que encontrei o cerne da questão do Millarworld.

I love stories about an old gun-fighter back for one last job and this is the granddaddy of them all. I haven't read a huge lot of Mark Millar's work, but the couple of titles I have read haven't impressed me a whole lot. Being asked to feel sorry for this narcissistic mass murderer, (whom is also likely a serial sexual offender,) is akin to being asked to give sympathy for someone like Kevin Spacey. Channeling the spirit of Bond, a young Roland King looks dashing and lets the quips fly as he leaps and shoots his way through a series of soldiers and assassins. Sometimes a book so nasty and nihilistic comes along that you may be repulsed, and wonder just how the hell it ever saw the light of day past the proverbial drawing board .Mesmo os quadrinhos que trazem mulheres como protagonistas, tais como Imperatriz e Renascida, também lidam com crises de meia-idade e um machismo enrustido. A brilliant addition to the spy-thriller genre, but with a somewhat left-leaning take on it as our hero, Roland King, really has no time to die. While he may be styled after James Bond, Roland’s trajectory in King of Spies is placing him squarely in the role of Raoul Silva to someone else’s 007. Mark Millar’s King of Spies is shaping up to be an action-packed romp through the contemporary world of espionage through the eyes of a hardened spy. The artwork of Matteo Scalera and Giovanna Niro is one of the foremost reasons for the book's cinematic impression, where even the most brutal moments have an artistic fervor to them.

Let’s start with the good about this tale of the world’s deadliest British superspy who receives a terminal cancer diagnosis and decides to spend his final months assassinating every powerful person who deserves it. Depressing and distasteful, this comic followed an unlikeable retired spy who acted abominably during his prime and as an old man spent his days drinking and berating his past self for actions he couldn’t change. Now, death has come knocking at Roland's door, giving him six months tops to live before cancer takes his life.

While it is satisfying to see corrupt officials and depraved celebrities get their due in the most gruesome manner, the story by itself lacks depth and is too straightforward to allow for political subtexts.

Roland king, super spy finds out he has a few months to live and he is in his mid 60s and thus he goes on a mission to get rid of the monsters in the world and we see him take down corrupt politicians and bureaucrats are corporates and what not and its epic and I love how action oriented it is and it feels like a movie omg, I love the thrills here and him being chases by British intelligence and his son Atticus on the hunt for him and such a great plot and then seeing his past in flashbacks and then in the present what happens with his son and how he goes out and a long lost daughter also. In King of Spies, prize-winning journalist and bestselling author of Escape From Camp 14, Blaine Harden, reveals one of the most astonishing – and previously untold – spy stories of the twentieth century. After being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, and seeing the state of the world, King realizes that all his work wasn’t to improve the system, it was to maintain it, and that system has sold out the many for the benefit of the few. Kingsman, assim como Rei dos Espiões, é baseado em 007, mas são espiões deprimidos e preocupados com seu status que caiu em desgraça.

Realizing that the world has stayed the same at the expense of his own life and wellbeing, Roland finally has his Raoul Silva moment, becoming determined to smash the system, with motivations rooted in the dreaded question everyone comes to ask at some point or another - “Was it really worth it? Jesus Americano é um menino bozinho demais pra ser macho, tem que ser o diabo, que aí sim ele é macho de verdade.

That said, the plot is such an overused trope that the book just kind of blends into the environment. After a life of debauchery, espionage, and murder robust enough to even make Bond himself blush, Roland looks at the world around him and realizes that he didn’t really make the world any better. He’s divorced, estranged from his son, forgotten by his country, and worst of all, he has time to sit and think. One gets the feeling he didn’t kill the Queen in this one because she was about to die already, but that would be a convenient excuse for copping out on his own story at the highest possible level. It was a relentless pity party and when the protagonist wasn’t spending his time endlessly whining about past choices he couldn’t change, he was pinning all the blame on others for his own choices that he consciously made. She wants him back on his feet to finish his self-assigned final mission: murdering all the men and women in high office that he knows are to blame for the absolute mess the world has become. And it’s not just because Brosnan looks exactly like the protagonist Roland King, with a full beard and a distinguished brand of handsomeness that is equal parts sophisticated and rugged. And I have to wonder if Matteo is a fan of Danny Trejo because one of his would-be assassins doesn’t half resemble a younger version of the action star.
