The reading level and subject matter are appropriate for early teen girls, and while there is a fair amount of misdirection, there is, in the end, also not much of a mystery per se to solve. i am going to read the next book out of curiosity due to the cliffhanger ending, but if the sequel doesn't deliver, i'm very done with this series. Her meekness annoyed me at times, her constant need to apologise and show gratitude, but there came a point where I realised her behavior was an instinctive response to her trauma, and it was actually something I recognized in myself. It skews a little more urban fantasy but is also jam-packed full of clan intrigue and angst and love and betrayal.
