I was interested to see what Star would get up to as she had up to this point very much let her sister CeCe, steer the ship that they were on. Her youngest daughter Sonia would go on to become the great-grandmother of Camilla Parker-Bowles, the wife of Prince Charles. The title sums her up pretty well actually, as so far in the previous books she has really been The Shadow Sister.

CeCe’s story, The Pearl Sister, will take us into the turbulent history of Australia, as well as to South East Asia.Her animal tales are innocent and imaginative, capturing a pastoral England that I think we all long for in the modern age. The many contradictions in Greek myth have been tricky for me to manoeuvre, but I decided to fully embrace these two stories. I was both heartbroken and delightedly happy at moments throughout Star and Flora’s story and love the way Lucinda weaves such magic in bringing it all together. And both the character and her stories fit so well with the setting and themes of the overall arc here. Her boss Orlando is one of my favourite characters in this story -- part of me wants to reach into the pages and bring him into real life, even though he's not at all built for it! Star’s journey to understanding more about herself and her past takes the reader back to London of the early twentieth century, where her ancestor Flora MacNichol, has a series of adventures that include the likes of the then Kings Mistress Alice Keppel, to Beatrix Potter.
