As I already mentioned, the Super Deluxe Edition of In Utero is a four-disc set made up of three CDs and a DVD. Engineer-producer Steve Albini has enabled Nirvana to replicate the savage immediacy of their live sound-the sound of a band without commercial aspirations or pretensions, just thrashing away for the sheer joy of noise. collectors 180 gram double vinyl edition with original packaging, free 320kbps mp3 download and exclusive new poster. With the talented Steve Albini recording it is loud and noisy rock but crucially spliced with Cobain's mesmerising gift for melody which ensured that Nirvana were not tuneless like some of their peers - though Soundgarden had some great singles - and by far the leading grunge band.

This version of Nirvana's In Utero features different mixes on the songs Heart Shaped Box and All Apologies. The subject matter is mostly stark and dark with a lot of the songs describing depression and a couple of disturbing themes and it is comparable to the Manic Street Preachers' Holy Bible (the last one to include Richey James’ lyrics while he was still alive). though my copy has consistent white noise throughout every song exept “All Apologies” the mastering itself is really great, it sounds super punchy and detailed and warm and a lot more aggressive and grungy than the digital version. It’s one of the better Nirvana live sets to be commercially released, definitely better than the Paramount concert that came with the Nevermind box set, but I still like the Reading Festival one more (although that’s generally considered to be one of the best live shows of all time, so that may not be a fair comparison). While this press is quiet,and the packaging is really stellar, the original just sounds so much better.Before that however Nirvana wanted to follow up on Nevermind but they didn't want to do the same kind of record. Not sure, but my copy sounds far too heavy on the bass - really boomy and with no definition, to the point I have to listen to it with flat bass. Finally, my one issue with this particular pressing is that the digital download code gives you downloads for the original mixes, not the ones on this vinyl.

Now, if you want to get technical, a vinyl rip probably doesn’t sound as good as a high-quality MP3 taken directly from a digital source. It really feels like they thought of everything with this one, about the only thing this box set is missing is vinyl.We carry a broad range of CDs and vinyl (7”/12” singles and LPs) and specialise in indie, alternative, rock, punk, metal plus a few other genres. It’s probably aged better than 90% of the albums from its era, and it remains Nirvana’s crowning achievement as a band. The sweetspot between Nirvana at their rawest and hardest but also displaying Cobain's you-can't-teach-that-knack for writing the perfect pop song.
