Although I’d never worked that way before, everything flowed so naturally that day, all the parts complementing each other perfectly. Whilst I could pick out more of the lyrics to dissect they all tend to suggest the same two things; that fame isn’t what it's cracked up to be and that the industry uses and abuses talent. It strips away the glamour and instead of talking about a global superstar it focuses on the overnight stars; the normal people who get used and abused by the industry. In the first verse, the lyrics suggest that once someone becomes famous ("VIPerson"), their problems worsen and their paranoia grows.

The song itself depicts "flop stars" and the negative side to fame and explores the idea of others benefitting financially from the fame of celebrities.Just Jack’s 'Starz in their Eyes' in this way is the predecessor for Mike Posner; the upbeat and catchy tune is topped by a cockney vocal that makes it such an entertaining listen – but there is so much more to it than that. The song "Starz in their Eyes" by Just Jack criticizes the culture of celebrity and the desire for fame. This means that producers of the show knowingly tell these people that they are good enough at least twice before they make it onto the stage, filling them with hope and self-belief which can then be torn down in front of the nation for our entertainment. It encourages listeners to question the allure of celebrity culture and highlights the importance of staying true to oneself.

It’s highly publicised that the rich and famous do have their struggles; we often put them up on a pedestal and stare at them with wide and envious eyes wishing for their fortune and fame, but really it’s not the dream we make it out to be. However, upon stopping, the sudden change from three decades of constant work and pressure to an abundance of free time turned the star to alcohol and very nearly caused an untimely demise. The thing I love about that song though is that there is a tipping point; the moment when you first notice the lyrics.

Harking back to my review of Justin Bieber’s 'Lonely', 'Starz in their Eyes' gives us a look into the life we all think we dream of but that really isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Jay Reynolds, who produced the whole of Overtones, then worked tirelessly, tweaking, editing, honing, even re-recording the drums, to get the best out of this tune.

Sure, we can all recognise that the famed life is far from perfect but how are we to ever fully understand the pressures that these people face? But… Although I loved what we had done, I began feeling that it sounded too much like a straight ahead disco-y indie pop song. The dance classic is upbeat and fun with a catchy riff that is bound to pull people onto the dancefloor.

Starz in their Eyes” attacks talent shows and ‘get famous quick’ schemes which abuse the contestants and then drop them at a moment’s notice when they quickly become irrelevant. It does seem that everything is magnified for those cursed with fame; every mistake is chewed over by the masses and their life and work comes under constant criticism, I certainly wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. The chorus questions why someone would want to put "starz in their eyes," implying that seeking fame leads to negative consequences. To me, the producers of these kinds of shows are the users who laugh in their sleeves whilst setting up innocent people for a live and televised downfall. When we get bored and flick on the TV on a Saturday night we are often greeted by a poor soul stood on stage in front of thousands, willed on by family and friends; only for us to soon learn that actually they aren’t that talented after all and are swiftly met with laughs from the crowd and snide jokes and remarks from the judges. The main issue is that often the people who do take a stand are the rich and famous and it’s very hard for the general public to empathise. The whole song is a masterpiece filled with sentiments of the rise and fall of fame; the quick highs followed by the crushing lows.
