Choose your own flavors from their 26 different types or opt for a variety selection of their best selling scone flavors with their scone sampler box. Transfer the scones to a parchment-lined or well-greased baking sheet. They can be set fairly close together; you should be able to crowd them all onto an 18" x 13" half-sheet pan. These scones had an interesting hexagonal shape and were nicely browned with a sprinkling of cheese. They didn't have a particularly strong taste or aroma, though the hint of cheese and touch of heat from the cayenne were quite pleasant. Sadly, the texture was very claggy, damp and heavy.

These are enriched with Cornish clotted cream and buttermilk, and even without anything on, they tasted buttery and well seasoned.

Aldi Specially Selected Baked in Britain Sultana All Butter Scones (89p for four) Reviewed by Paul Dimery – Boundless digital editor Now you're going to coat each scone with glaze. You can dip each one individually, which is quite time-consuming. Or line a baking sheet (with sides) with parchment, and pour about half the glaze atop the parchment. Set the scones atop the glaze, swirling them around a bit to coat their bottoms. Then drizzle the remaining glaze over the top. Use a pastry brush to brush the glaze over each scone, to coat it entirely. The glaze is very thin, so this is easily done. Sainsbury’s has a few different flavour scones this summer, including a Farmhouse Cheese, if you fancy a savoury taste, Cornish Clotted Cream and Summer Edition Orange Sultana and Blossom Honey. But I’m a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to these kind of things so I decided to try to the supermarket’s Sultana Scones.

They use an original recipe that has been perfected over three decades and offer twelve unique flavors throughout the year, depending upon the season. There's something amazing about a fluffy scone filled with rich clotted cream and sweet jam, but it's always a shame when the scone itself just isn't quite up to scratch. Whether you're a fan of fruity or plain, there's plenty of options at our local supermarkets to choose from. Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until all is moistened and holds together. Stir in additional milk or half and half if the dough seems dry, and doesn't come together.Scones aren’t something I buy in regularly, but I do enjoy them, especially with traditional clotted cream, jam and a cup of tea. I have to say, these Sainsbury’s scones tasted delicious. Make the glaze by stirring together the sugar, water, and vanilla. If the sugar seems particularly lumpy, sift it first, for an extra-smooth glaze. Morrisons Cheese Scones (85p for four) Reviewed by Neil Thrush – Boundless Cooking & Baking Group member

The size of these scones was much more like it, and they were plump and round – though I did think they looked a little dull and artificial. Texture-wise, they were dense and doughy, which meant that eating them with butter alone was a bit of a chore – cream and jam are a must. That's not to say that they weren't quite tasty, though, and their sweet, buttery aroma brought a smile to my face. Scones are the ultimate English tradition and a must in any afternoon tea. Whether you top yours with cream then jam, or jam then cream, they are best served warm straight from the oven. Something else important to note about Seven Sisters Scones – they offer a good selection of dietary restricted scones for delivery, like gluten free and vegan. You can choose a chef’s selection gluten free or vegan box or a create-your-own subscription box also in either vegan or gluten free. With the Queen's Platinum Jubilee coming up at the start of June, many of us will be entertaining friends, family and even neighbours to celebrate the benchmarking event. If you need some baking inspiration or help with making some of Britain's classic treats, help is at hand. These were the joint most expensive scones in our test, but they're worth every penny, with a mouthwatering appearance and a deeply satisfying taste and texture. Whether you eat them with butter or with jam and cream – or should that be cream and jam? – you're in for an afternoon treat. For a chocaholic, these were very disappointing scones. There was nodiscernable smell, and I expected more flavour – I couldn't taste the chocolate drops at all. To make things worse, the drops started to melt after the scone had been in my hand for a couple of minutes. Never again.
