Bake The Red Cake: Whisk together the red velvet cake mix, eggs, oil, vanilla pudding mix, and sour cream.Pour the batter into a loaf pan (Image 1) and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. But then my good friend Robert suggested a genius flavor. A cake flavor inspired by Christina Tosi‘s compost cookie!! A cake to make the kids scream! The Grinch is coming this Christmas, with our exciting Grinch Christmas Cake, including a keepsake Dr Seuss Tree Ornament. A lovely treat to send as a gift or share with the family at Christmas Okay - this little Grinch cake is so cute with his mean face, but I'm also loving the stand he's on - courtesy of Baked by Cookie.

RESULTS: This cake was delicious! The flavoring really made it taste more buttery & vanilla – I didn’t detect the Carmel or nut flavors in the loaf. The pumpkin was good by itself (I sampled a piece of scrap from the heart cake), but was not really noticeable when mixed with the loaf. I think the icing doesn’t go with pound cake, so my next experiment is going to be with using some sort of crumbles on top – like you have on top of a crumb cake. My thinking is that green crumbles may make it look more Grinch-like lol  I’ll let you know how that goes. In all three version of the Grinch, his fur is part of his identity. I wanted to create some texture, but I didn’t think that piping on fur would be quite right. That would make him too hairy. Once fully mixed, add in the vanilla and salt, and beat on low until the ingredients are fully incorporated, and the desired consistency is reached. If you can’t find heat-treated flour, you can simply heat your flour in the microwave for about 1 minute, or until it reaches and internal temperature of 160 degrees F. Giving this Grinch Cake Some Fur Not only is it delicious, I also loved the name! I associate the word compost with garbage, and the Grinch eats garbage. It all just seemed so fitting for this cake. Combine the cream of tartar with 2 Tbs of confectioners sugar and then add that to the whipped, firm peaked meringue, continue whipping and add the remaining confectioners sugar

Icing: Pillsbury has a green Funfetti, which is the Perfect shade of green, so thanks to Pillsbury, no nee Make The Cream Cheese Mixture: Beat the cream cheese and salt until light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar and beat at a reduced speed until smooth. Increase the speed and beat until the frosting is fluffy.RESULTS – I get why you need to use the pound cake for the heart because it is dense/heavy, but thought I’d try a cake mix for the rest. It was very difficult to figure out when it was done because the box doesn’t have a recommendation for baking a cake in a loaf pan – I didn’t write it down, so I don’t recall how long it baked (sorry). Upon slicing – the heart was perfect!!! The green color of the cake was very dark, but a pretty color. The icing was way too light and the wrong shade of green! Pro Tip: You’ll need to spread out the batter.; it will not fill up the pan. Don’t worry if the red hearts are raised above a bit, the green batter will rise while baking. Add in vanilla and oil, and mix at a low speed until fully incorporated. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula, then beat on low speed for about 15 seconds (the key is to mix until the ingredients are JUST incorporated, so that the batter isn't over mixed).

I promise you won’t need anything but your favorite recipe for cake and buttercream 2 recipes and some parchment paper cones to decorate the whole thing That method works well, but for this cake I wanted to try something different. This Grinch cake gave me the perfect opportunity to attempt hiding a heart inside a cake, and I have to say, I love the way it turned out! I’ll be sharing my recipe and tips down below so you can recreate this cake for yourself. This Grinch Cake, then, represents that duality of character. The outside is a simple line drawing of his face, set in its trademark scheming grin… After smooth frosting the cake (see my How to Smooth Frost a Buttercream Cake video here), I put it in the fridge to chill while I worked on the decorations. Isn’t that stunning?! The combination of the bright green cake and the bold red heart gets me every time. Seeing this cake makes MY heart grow three sizes, too.

Beat the butter on a medium speed for 30 seconds with a paddle attachment, until smooth. Slowly add in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time. Alternate with small splashes of cream. This cake was an 8-inch round cake baked in my favorite Magic Line Pans. The flavor was White Almond Sour Cream with vanilla buttercream. You can find the cake recipe here and the frosting recipe here.

Dip And Decorate: Dip the cake pop into the melted candy and place it on the baking tray (Image 3). Once the coating has hardened, melt the remaining candy melts and pipe swirls around the cake pop (Image 4). While the drizzle is still warm, dust with sanding sugar and add the candy heart. The final challenge of this cake was the Grinch’s fur. I was happy with how smooth I was able to get my second layer of green frosting, but it didn’t feel right. Cream the vegan butter with the sugar until light and fluffy and this may take about 3-5 minutes on medium to high speed

Once the cake is baked, let it cool and then cut the cake into slices. Then, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out as many hearts as it takes to lay them face to face from one end of the pan to the other end. Make sure it is a snug fit but leave a little room at each end for the green cake mix. Personalisation: Each cake is skilfully finished by our own cake decorators and can be personalised to suit your own celebration or sent as a gift. Make The Green Batter: Whisk together the yellow cake mix, eggs, oil, pistachio pudding mix, and sour cream. (Image 4) Pour in egg whites, and mix on low until just incorporated. Mix in the buttermilk in two installments, on a low speed. I was surfing for something unique & cute to make as Christmas gifts this year and came across your blog. I LOVE the Grinch and I LOVE this cake! I’m a rookie in the kitchen and like to put my creativity to work – so in preparation for making these to give, I thought I should practice and do some experimenting at the same time…and thought I’d share my experience so far. I’ve made 2 loafs. Loaf 1
