Description

I deducted a star for the ending. It was a little too Victorian-style melodrama for me, but otherwise an excellent debut. Thank you so much for allowing me access to read this book! This book was one of the best I have read in a long while!! I found it so engrossing and barely put it down until it was finished. Set in a fictional area of London, the book is about Ben Harper, a crime journalist, whose older brother was murdered 20 years ago by two girls in the same class. As the 20th anniversary of the crime approaches another murder brings more evidence to light. A totally engaging book. Twenty years ago Bens 14 year old brother and his best friend were murdered. 10 years ago his mother committed suicide. Ben has become one of the best investigative journalists there is and now it’s time to investigate his own history. You twisty read that keeps you guessing to the end. Ominous at the beginning, breathless by the end ... this is excellent hardcore suspense -- LEE CHILD A pacey thriller full of twists and turns. You won't be able to put TWELVE SECRETS down until the very end. -- KARIN SLAUGHTER

Thank goodness my wish was granted and I got access to this book. It’s one I’ll be urging people to read when it is eventually released. Publishing is a great industry to work in with lots of creative people, and with an ability to reach a huge number of readers in so many different ways. I have worked within Sales for much of my career and while I have always been very close to the publishing process it is a very different experience as an author. All the stars for this clever and well thought out plot. Fast moving and full of character interaction. Plenty of surprises, perfectly timed reveals, and a fabulous twist at the end. Cannot wait to read more in the future.

The lead character in TWELVE SECRETS is an investigative journalist called Ben Harper. TWELVE SECRETS tells the story of his life but the nature of his work allows him to be drawn into a huge amount of other stories. With him being an investigative journalists, the stories he becomes involved with will always have a link to the past but will hopefully play out in the present day as well.

You work in publishing, so you know what goes on behind the scenes - what has it been like to experience the other side of the process, and what are you looking forward to? Robert Gold is the Sunday Times bestselling author of Twelve Secrets and Eleven Liars. Originally from Harrogate in North Yorkshire, Robert Gold began his career as an intern at the American broadcaster CNN, based in Washington DC. He returned to Yorkshire to work for the retailer ASDA, becoming the chain’s nationwide book buyer. He now works in sales for a UK publishing company. Very well written, great characters and good twists - saw part of the ending coming but not all of it so I was impressed with that.

Twelve Secrets : The Sunday Times bestselling thriller

The first “books” I ever had published were three short books I co-authored with James Patterson in his Bookshots series. That was a brilliant experience and nobody can tell a story better than James Patterson. Happily I note this is tagged Ben Harper #1, so more are planned and I assume they’ll involve both Ben and Dani. I’m keen in particular for more about Dani’s past – her police officer father and her partner, and the impact of the incident that derailed her career. Fictionophile’s OCTOBER 2023 Reading Wrap-Up #bookblogger #MonthlyWrapUp#Fictionophile October 31, 2023The novel is called TWELVE SECRETS and is set in a fictionalised part of west London. It is a close knit community with quite a claustrophobic feel. Like so many people, I loved the ITV series Broadchurch, where lots of secrets were kept hidden - I guess I would aspire to capturing an element of that.

I adored TWELVE SECRETS - It was so much twisty-turny fun and I loved the characters and how their secrets unravelled. It's a fast-paced, utterly gripping thriller - a definite twelve out of ten! -- VANESSA SAVAGE Originally from Harrogate in North Yorkshire, Robert Gold began his career as an intern at the American broadcaster CNN, based in Washington DC. Robert now lives in Putney and his new hometown served as the inspiration for the fictional town of Haddley in Twelve Secrets. In 2016, he co-authored three titles in James Patterson’s Bookshots series. Ten years ago, Ben’s mother died, seemingly by committing suicide, but it is questionable if that was actually the case. Goodness me! There is SO MUCH awesome crime fiction out there right now and this is another goodie! If you like tv series like Broadchurch, then I think you’ll enjoy ‘Twelve Secrets‘ too. Absolutely addictive. An unforgettable and nuanced cast of characters, a claustrophobic setting, and a suspenseful and chilling examination of the dark and destructive power of secrets. You will sleep with your eyes open after reading this one. -- GILLY MACMILLAN Ben Harper was engaging and sympathetic. As this is touted to be the first in a series featuring Ben Harper, I am confident that I will try to follow this series to its conclusion. After reading an interview with the author, I understand that PC Dani Cash will have more of a presence in the second novel in the series. – I am anxious to find out more about her character. I received a complimentary digital copy of this novel from Sphere (an imprint of Little, Brown UK) via NetGalley – at my request, for my own reading enjoyment and the writing of this review.
