About this deal

These headphones are for monitoring and you realise straight away why they have been in production for the last several decades. The sound is crystal clear, soundstage is extremely wide and imaging is just terrific. Headphone fits comfortably on your head, does not cause sweating thanks to soft velvet pillows and does not wring your ears. Over the course of two weeks, we practically didn't take these headphones off, running them through the Audioengine D1 DAC with music, movies, shows, and even some PC gaming and work meetings. Everything sounds amazing.

They have a great sub bass, deep. A very nice treble extension, the bass and treble are escalated quite a bit, a lot actually. But this will not distract you from the mids. After a bit of EQ I got them to sound more natural and a bit more neutral. The 770s have a bit of a fame for strident highs. While I don't exactly agree that it is overbearing, the higher frequencies did indeed carry an extra power, which is something I don't have a particular taste for. After running some tests, I EQed them to taste by raising the lower frequencies by just a bit, as well as lowering the higher frequencies. Just a touch of gain adding and reduction here and there, and after that, they were good to go for me. The Beyerdynamic DT770 80 Ohm has been around for several decades and hence many people have many opinions about it, and here is mine. First lets talk about this headphones’ namesake, i.e. “80 Ohm”, I thought I would need an amp for driving this headphone but it runs loud and proud in my ASUS ROG GL 552 laptop and Lenovo Vibe K5 and Asus Zenfone mobiles. But you can get an amp if you like listening to music at really high volumes. On top of that the comfort and the overall mechanical design was increased and a removable XLR cable was added that can be swapped out depending on what you’re doing. +Which ist the best headphone for mixing and mastering?

Should you buy the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (80Ω)?

As goes the headphones, I rate them five stars in every respect taking into account their budget price. I also own Amiron Homes, which certainly sound a little better but which don’t quite fit my head as perfectly as the 770s, and I have a pair of 880 250ohms which I think have a significantly different sound signature from the 770s (very precise but understated bass and a gauzy, delicate treble). I am not a fan of closed headphones per se, but sometimes it is the only politic choice when wearing them around the house, and the 770s are the only such headphones I have so far found that I really enjoy the sound of and find comfortable when wearing for long periods. I find that the 80 ohm 770s work well on any device and yet they still benefit from dedicated amplification (which in my case comes in the form of a couple of Little Dot Mk 2 head amps in a couple of different systems. For my 250 ohm headphones these Little Dots are essential). The PRO models (DT 770 PRO, DT 880 PRO, DT 990 PRO) are designed for professional applications, e.g. in the recording studio. The Edition models are suitable for use at home on the stereo system. I've been looking for a set of studio cans for a while, and have always heard amazing things about the 770s, 880s, and 990s. Initially I was having a hard time figuring out which one of those would be best for me. I wanted a pair of headphones that I could simultaneously record with (meaning, with minimal spill), and that I could mix and master with.

Although it is a V-shape sounding headphone, it is quite aggressive in presenting the details. Everything sounded quite the way it should, not neutral, but still very good. There's soft leather padding along the top of the headphones, too, which is also among the best we've experienced. The best part? All of this padding is removable and replaceable, which means you won't have to buy a new pair of headphones once the DT 770 Studios get a little torn up or dirty. Personally, I think the sound signature of the 880s is so different from the Amirons and the 770s that I would hesitate to compare them. However, I am sure that some people would identify some traits in the sound of the 770s and 880s as being similar and that the Amirons are the more different headphone of the three, but I am describing my subjective experience here and am not trying to be objective. By any measure, the 770 Pro 80s are very comfortable, good sounding headphones that represent very decent value for money.
