Description

Mayer's hematoxylin is an alum hematoxylin, a commonly used stain that may be employed for both progressive and regressive stains. It is often used as a nuclear counterstain for special stains and immunohistochemistry. For these applications, Mayer's is used to stain the nuclei and then blued without the use of a differentiator. Mayer's is a water-based stain. Stains containers: In high concentrations needed for dyeing clothes, laundry bluing will stain containers permanently, which is certainly something to consider.

Lemon juice: Lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent that can help remove laundry stains. Squeeze fresh lemon juice onto the stained area, then let it sit in the sun for a few hours (the sunlight can enhance the bleaching effect). Rinse the fabric thoroughly afterwards. After rinsing, you can proceed with drying your clothes as usual. Either hang them on an airer or toss them in the tumble dryer. Once dry, your whites should look as bright as when you bought them. Keep an eye out, though—you’re aiming for bright, not blue! If using a washing machine, we recommend choosing a setting with a shorter rinse cycle to avoid over-bluing. Rust bluing was developed between hot and cold bluing processes, and was originally used by gunsmiths in the 19th century to blue firearms prior to the development of hot bluing processes. The process was to coat the gun parts in an acid solution, let the parts rust uniformly, then immerse the parts in boiling water to convert the red oxide Fe

Repeat the application of the solution several more times until you got the wanted bluing result. Step #3 Fine AdjustmentSurface Preparation: Ensure the metal surface is smooth and polished using sandpaper and steel wool. Above: To avoid staining, I wait until the drum is almost full with water, before adding the blue solution. Worth the Effort? Above: The old, once-dingy pillow case (L) looks much brighter after a couple washes with Mrs. Stewart’s Laundry Bluing. In addition, cold bluing is a far safer and environmentally friendly too. Hot bluing can be dangerous for the inexperienced as it requires the handling of extremely hot chemicals and these can be hard to dispose of in a manner which does not affect the environment. Acid tank– I recommend using pyrex, gel-coated fiberglass, or polypropylene plastic containersif you need to use Hydrochloric Acid as part of the Oxynate No. 84 bluing method. Marbling Effect: Nitre bluing creates a unique marbling effect as the gun parts cool. This distinctive pattern is a hallmark of this bluing method.
