Description

Polyvinyl acetate (PVA), also known as "white glue", "hobby and craft" or “school glue” is non-toxic, PH neutral, cheap and easy to use, and is therefore the most commonly used type of wood glue. Joints should be tight-fitting and clamped during curing for maximum strength. PVAs remain flexible after they have cured however, and will creep under constant load. Joints that were previously glued with PVA may be hard to repair since most glues (including PVA itself) do not adhere well to cured PVA glue. PVA glues are not waterproof, however type 2 PVAs are water resistant.

I've been looking at boatbuilding techniques based on diagonal wood veneers using the West System or similar epoxies to build a 34ft sailing hull. Do not apply in damp conditions, when rain is likely, or in temperatures below 10°C - between 15°C and 20°C is ideal.

How do I make wood filler?

When straw bale building, one inevitably ends up with lots of wood that needs both gluing and nailing together. But what glue should a natural builder use? Poly Vinyl Acetate is what we call PVA wood glue or white glue and also used by carpenters, schools and crafts. This aliphatic rubbery synthetic polymer is probably the most used glue. Formula (C4H6O2)n. Why use Cascamite when PVA is so Easy? Mixing by weight is recommended, at a ratio of 2 parts Cascamite powder to 1 part water, stirring continuously until all powder is dissolved Yes epoxy is messy but cold molding using ply or veneer is a particularly messy method it is also very time consuming when used to build a big boat.

One Shot adhesives are ideal for the smaller user as if they are kept dry and in a cool environment, the shelf life is excellent. PVA’s and liquid UF resins have shorter shelf lives so will lose their ability to give a good bond the older they become. NOTE: -At temperatures below 1 10C (5OF), a period of up to 2 or 3 days may be required before the glue sets. During cold weather, it is therefore essential that joints under pressure be kept in a warm place. Gel TimeCharles R. Self (1995). Super Simple Birdhouses You Can Make. Sterling Publishing Company, Inc. pp. 38-39. ISBN 978-0-8069-0858-8. There is no doubt for me but I believe Cascamite is the best exterior wood glue available. If you really want a quality PVA then Titebond Ultimateis a good option that does not require mixing. Are Powdered Resin Wood Glues Waterproof? Mixing powdered resin wood glues of any type such as Cascamite, Polyvine Polymite, and Resintite requires a consistent mixing method. Add powered cascamite and start to mix it to the water, forming a solution. Add a little at a time and slowly increase the amount of cascamite
