After a couple of sprays, you notice a magnificent imposing gloomy cypress. The vetiver middle notes make themselves noticed almost immediately, embracing the cypress without choking it. For me, however, the icing on the cake at ENE - as with the sports version, which is more menthol-heavy - are the essential ingredients. Elemi, cypress and frankincense all have this wellness aura that is reminiscent of a sauna infusion. Some people may turn up their noses, but I'm totally into it! :-) For me, ENE is therefore not a fragrance that I only put on on winter evenings. After all, one can certainly attest to his subliminal effervescence. For me, ENE and the sports version clearly play in the same league, which is why they are also excellent for layering. So flankers in my nose make sense. Nothing challenging... Nothing too strong, actually the first impression was that this is very weak, I couldn't smell much intensity but I liked very much what I smelled. Gave it another spray. - Better.

Uniqueness: 9.0 (unique as a strong vetiver dark and earthy fragrance; of course, I am not considering its flankers) I can see by the poll, Sycomore is a favored fragrance. You love it :) It would seem Sycomore is another Chanel jewel for the crown, right? Right?Recommendation: This is not a good fragrance for those that are looking for a mass appeal or highly versatile fragrances, rather, for those that seek different and unique fragrances. Have you ever been in a catholic church when they burn incense? Because that's EXACTLY the smell and anyone who has will recognize it instantly. For those who haven't, it's like wood, smoke, earth, and salt. When I first fell in love with Sycomore years ago, I was a total fragrance n00b. I thought its woody and earthy smoke came from a combination of vetiver and tobacco. And in, part, it does. But I didn’t appreciate the degree to which cypress actually contributed to that smoky, woody, earthy accord. I later noticed that the combination of vetiver and cypress in other perfumes produced a similar scent — Rag & Bone Oddity, Le Labo Rose 31, EN Sport. ENALE obviously has this accord, and it is powerful in this scent. Where Sycomore uses tobacco, ENALE throws in incense to further strengthen this accord and to give additional dimension and character to it. The trees are mainly conifers, with their green needles and cones scattered on the forest floor. The scent of fresh pine is present, mingling with the earthy smell of damp soil and decaying leaves. The fallen leaves are a mix of brown, orange, and yellow, creating a patchwork of colors on the forest floor.

Which was ABSOLUTELY freaking perfect. Usually I’d see a woman like this and I’d imagine she smelled like opulent tuberose, indolent jasmine, or even some kind of sweet and spicy dessert. But no, this particular woman came into my office that day wearing Sycomore. I'm surprised that this has been classified as a women's fragrance, which is something I would disagree with. This is so much more a masculine scent than a feminine one, although I can imagine a strong confident lady wearing this beauty in all its glory.The words that first come to my mind smelling Sycomore, are safe and comforting, however unsettling. The scent seduced me again when I smelled it on an older friend who sat next to me at my Wall Street Rotay Club in Manhattan. He said this is his signature scent. I was intrigued by this fragrance and then remembered I bought this one some years ago. My cologne is still going strong and has not "turned". This is an outdoorsy woodsy smoky fragrance. It smells mainly of tobacco and sandalwood. The tobacco is not as you'd imagine it to be like a big Cuban cigar or anything. It's resinous, smoky and matches up with the woods scent, in this case it's a cypress scent which I really love. The perfume box is made of standard high-quality cardboard we know and love. A lot of niche brands could look up to Lalique to get an idea of how to do these things right.
