About this deal

Next, I probably most enjoy Quidditch Through the Ages. Given that I’m not a sports fan, you would think this would be tedious to me — but, believe it or not, this book is actually funny. Wizards have a propensity for setting things on fire during games. That’s all I’m going to say. Librarian skills: As a librarian, Madam Pince was able to easily locate various pieces of information and books for students, as Harry was sure that she would be able to find information about Nicolas Flamel in a second, but thought it might be too suspicious to ask her about it. [4] She sprang directly from my childhood fear of scary librarians. The kind who hate kids." [42] Etymology [ ] Study of Ancient Runes: Madam Pince was well versed with the study of runes, as she could use a Rune Dictionary to translate ancient runic symbols. [7] [40] He came to a sudden halt in front of a tall suit of armor. He had been so busy getting away from the library, he hadn't paid attention to where he was going. Perhaps because it was dark, he didn't recognize where he was at all. There was a suit of armor near the kitchens, he knew, but he must be five floors above there ( PS12).

The Divinity School was one of my favourite Oxford Harry Potter locations as the elaborate ceiling will take your breath away.

About the contributors

By far my favourite scene from the Divinity School has to be when the students are practicing their dances for the Yule Ball. Ron will never live down dancing with Professor McGonagall! During the Teacher Appreciation Celebration, Madam Pince showed little patience while being interviewed by the Slytherin student Ismelda Murk. [13] 1986–1987 school year [ ] In the 1940s, Tom Riddle may have looked in the Restricted Section of the library in hopes of finding a book regarding Horcruxes. At least one book in that section, Secrets of the Darkest Art gave explicit instruction on how to create a Horcrux. However, if he had looked in the library, he could not have found any book that had information on the possibility of creating multiple Horcruxes, since no individual in history was known to have done such a feat before his attempt and he later asked a teacher, Professor Slughorn for advice. [35]

During this year, she overheard Jacob's sibling talking with Ben Copper and Merula Snyde in the library, and reminded them to be quiet in the library. Jacob's sibling distracted and flattered her by praising her work as the school librarian, and Pince was befuddled by a student actually appreciating her work, and she felt nobody did. After talking over Pince's love of rules and discipline, they distracted by saying they had been students breaking rules in the library, which she immediately went to investigate, so they could sneak into the Restricted Section. [23] Pince is portrayed by British actress Sally Mortemore in the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Mortemore would return over a decade later to provide snippets of dialogue for the character in Hogwarts Mystery. It’s also the Hospital Wing during Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when many of the students are petrified including Hermione Granger. And again, it appears during the Prisoner of Azkaban when Harry wakes up after defeating the Dementors. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Year 2, "A SPECIAL CELEBRATION OF HOGWARTS TEACHERS!" Achievement - Madam Pince is seen talking in the courtyard with the student after Jacob's sibling starts interviewing McGonagall.

Commentary

Quidditch Through the Ages also gives, out of the three, the most extensive description of wizarding cultures outside of the UK. Very interesting to me. A variety of forests around the UK were used for filming Forbidden Forest scenes, although pretty much all the magical, otherworldly additions were either accomplished on a set or with CGI, so visiting these spots will look very different from the sets in the films. Unfortunately, photography of this part of the library is strictly prohibited. But, it’s still well worth seeing a part of the Hogwarts Library with your own eyes! Professor Arsenius Jigger was born on January 3rd, 1792 in a wizarding village near Bournemouth, England. His father, Magnesius, came from a long line of potioneers, and his nine-times great grandfather, Mercurius Jigger, was the cofounder of the well-known Diagon Alley apothecary Slug & Jiggers. The apothecary was opened in 1207 with a long-time business associate, Honorius Slug. During Jigger’s lifetime, his uncle and then his cousin ran the store, and Arsenius and his family enjoyed a comfortable living owing to the perpetual success of the shop among witches and wizards throughout the United Kingdom. His mother, Sulpheria, came from a long magical line of alchemists and potioneers as well. Step onto iconic sets including the Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest, Platform 9¾ and Diagon Alley. What props will I see?

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Chapter 23 ( Horcruxes), Dumbledore thought that Tom knew how to create Horcruxes, but that he just wanted to know whether it was possible to create seven because "no book could have given him that information". In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Chapter 6 ( The Ghoul in Pyjamas), Hermione had taken books about Horcruxes that Dumbledore "removed", and that she would "bet Voldemort got all the instruction he needed from here". Harry agreed that it "could" be "where he got the information" but it's unconfirmed. During the 1987–1988 school year, it held the election for the head of the decorating committee for the Celestial Ball. [10] If you wanted to visit Duke Humphrey’s Library make sure to book a guided tour of the Bodleian Library. I always loved the Chamber of Secrets design for some reason and was pretty sad to discover it was completely created on set and not a real visitable place. The following were all different locations used to film different interior scenes at Hogwarts, particularly for the first few films. Madam Pince remained at the library for the next school year, prowling around the bookshelves and protecting her tomes. [33]

At the start of the 1989–1990 school year, Jacob returned to Hogwarts to search the library for books, creating quite a mess in the process. When Jacob's sibling asked Pince if she had seen Jacob in the library, she said she was surprised to see rummage through the shelves haphazardly, as he had always been a model patron in the library who respected books. They then helped Pince clean up the scattered books. [12] The publication of both of these books gave Jigger enough money in royalties that he was free to work in a casual consulting capacity for the Ministry for the rest of his life. As they were frequently used as textbooks at Hogwarts, he often received queries from students while he still lived regarding particular defensive spells or techniques in potions. Jigger was well-known for his promptness and thoroughness in replying to such letters, which made him a favorite for many a student even following his retirement from public life Madam Pince held the note up to the light, as though determined to detect a forgery, but it passed the test." — Madam Pince examining Hermione Granger's note [src] The answer is Oxford, and the good news is you can easily visit it! For Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, they shot on location in Duke Humfrey’s Library in the Oxford Bodleian Libraries. Despite the fact she appears to be old in the books and videogames, Sally Mortemore was 41 at the time of filming, and no notable effort was made to make her character appear older.Nonverbal magic: Madam Pince was also adept in casting intricate nonverbal magic with her wand. One example was when she saw Harry and Ginny with chocolate in the library, she enchanted their possessions to chase them out without any mention of a spoken incantation. [10] It’s pretty mindblowing to see how tiny everything looked. In fact, the beds never changed size throughout the ten years of filming, even after the actors hit puberty and virtually doubled in size. Ah ... this collection is such a casual reread for me that I actually forgot that I needed to write a review! This one is kind of cheating, but still, if you want a chance to see Hogwarts’ glorious facade in real life, a final option for you is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at either the Universal Studios in Florida or the Universal Studios in Hollywood. It’s also seen prominently in some of the scenes in Goblet of Fire, like during the second Triwizard Cup challenge, and for a few other scenes like Neville fishing/Harry reading when Hermione comes and has to pass messages between Harry and Ron.
