About this deal

The inaugural edition of Machinery’s Handbook was published in January 1914. It was a toolbox-sized volume measuring 4.625 X 7 inches. It was well received, and more than 30,000 copies were sold within the first two years. (Industrial Press is proud to offer a Machinery’s Handbook Collector’s Edition: 1914 First Edition Replica of this landmark work.) Several revised editions were issued in the years following. During World War I, the Handbook was in great demand to serve a global call for machines of war.

Amidst the chapter on formulas and geometry, there’s a section on calculation of circles within a circle. Say you’re trying to figure out how many burritos you could fit into a large tube. Assuming that you can’t just squish them in there- for that would be cheating, not to mention messy as hell- three factors have to be taken into consideration: the arrangement of the center or core burrito; diameter of enclosing burrito when outer layer of burritos is complete; diameter of enclosing burrito when outer layer is not complete. This is followed by “Table 1: Number of burritos contained in complete layers of burritos and diameter of enclosing burrito.” Then follows an uncomfortably large number of ugly-looking equations and another baffling table or two. And if that isn’t enough of a challenge, the next section shows how to fit burritos into a rectangle. Enter numeric, fractional, metric thread sizes and drill sizes - and display tap, roll tap, close and free fit drill sizes plus pitch, major and minor diameters. Manufacturing and Materials: Additional information on utilizing today’s plastics, powder metallurgy standard and tool steels, manufacturing stresses, and preventing corrosion. Includes the complete contents of the print edition, plus Digital Edition-only material, added indexes, and the complete contents of the Machinery's Handbook Guide.

Metal casting and molding: new information for working with iron, steel, nonferrous metals, and alloys, metal casting and molding processes, and modeling and design considerations. Note: This edition is called “Large Print” as it is an enlarged (7" X 10") version of the original, smaller (4.6" x 7") Toolbox sized edition of this title. The text in this edition is the size of standard reference materials and is not enlarged print for individuals with partial sight. Manufacturing and Materials: Additional information on utilizing today’s plastics, powder metallurgy standard and tool steels, manufacturing stresses, and preventing corrosion.

Machine Elements and Operations: Updated and expanded coverage of CAD/CAM operations, boring, nontraditional cutting methods, o-rings and glands, and transmission chains. The detailed tables of contents located at the beginning of each section have been expanded and fine-tuned to make finding topics easier and faster. All ASME and ANSI standards have been reconfirmed and revised, including the game-changing ASME Y14.5-2018 standard. Metalworking Processes: More on brazing, soldering, welding, nondestructive testing, forming sheet metal, mill finishes, passivation, electropolishing, and plating.Revised & Expanded All-Time Most Popular Engineering Reference Book "The Bible Of The Mechanical Industries" For Over 100 YearsSince the first edition published more than 100 years ago, Machinery's Handbook has been the most popular engineering resource of all time. Universally considered the principal reference in the manufacturing and mechanical industries, the Handbook is the ultimate collection of essential information needed by engineers, designers, drafters, metalworkers, toolmakers, machinists, educators, students, and serious home hobbyists. From engineering and design departments, machine and metalworking shops, and a wide range of manufacturing and industrial facilities, to countless classrooms and workshops worldwide, this is the must-have technical reference. Benefits This is the toolbox print edition, which measures a handy 4.6″ x 7″. You also may be interested in Machinery’s Handbook, 31st Edition, Large Print Edition, which is identical in content but measures 7″ x 10″, with larger text (the size of standard reference materials). All ASME and ANSI standards have been reconfirmed and revised, including the game-changing ASME Y14.5-2018 standard. The metric content continues to be expanded. Throughout the book, wherever practical, metric units are shown adjacent to the U.S. customary units in the text. Many formulas are now presented with equivalent metric expressions, and metric examples have been added. Additive manufacturing: expert discussions, exploring 3D printing materials, techniques, and workflow, compare traditional machining to today's additive manufacturing processes.
