Jungle Flashcards- Teach children the names of jungle species with these handy flashcards. Each one features a lovely illustration of the animal as well as its name. Why not try playing snap with them too? If you load up this plastic snake craft with dried beans, it will produce rattling sounds when you are playing with it. You can make this by threading rope through half pieces of plastic Easter eggs that have had holes drilled into them. Begin threading cardboard discs, bottle tops and wooden beads to make the body of your snake. Add a wooden bead on the inside of each bottle tops, this creates a space between the bottle top and the next cardboard disc, allowing your snake to undulate. By 160, the worship of Glycon had undoubtedly spread beyond the Aegean. An inscription from Antioch of that date records a slogan, "Glycon protect us from the plague-cloud" that is consistent with the description we have from Lucian. Also in that year the governor of Asia, Publius Mummius Sisenna Rutilianus, declared himself protector of Glycon's oracle. The governor later married Alexander's daughter. According to Lucian, another Roman governor, of Cappadocia, was led by Glycon's oracle to his death in Armenia, and even the Emperor himself was not immune to the cult: Marcus Aurelius sought prophesies from Alexander and his snake god.

A marble statue of Glycon was found during an excavation under the former Pallas railway station in Constanța, Romania. The statue is 66 centimetres (26in) tall and the length of the snake is 4.76 metres (15.6ft). [5] It is on display at the Constanța History and Archaeology Museum. Romania commemorated this unique sculpture on a postage stamp in 1974, and on a bank note of 10,000 lei in 1994. Wolk, Douglas, Please, Sir, I Want Some Moore: The lazy British genius who transformed American comics(2003) It is known that, for at least a hundred years following Alexander's death, a new Glycon cult began to spread its influence along areas adjacent to the Danube, with archaeological finds such as the statue discovered in Tomi (modern day Constanța) being interpreted by some to indicate the presence of a large public cult in the city. [2] With Valentine’s Day approaching, this might be the cutest snake craft to try out! Your kids can work on their motor skills as they cut up the heart shapes and glue all of the pieces together. Here’s a cool snake toy that’s best suited to older learners because they must use a mending needle to thread string through cork pieces. After it’s complete, you can watch them drag around their new pet snake! To begin making your snake, cut a piece of thin cord, approximately 150cm long. Thread the embroidery needle and move it into the middle of the cord. Taking the ends of the cord, thread 4 small plastic beads onto each side and tie knots in the ends to prevent the beads from coming off. Now thread 8 small beads into your needle making a Y shape tongue for the snake. Greek text of Lucian: Alexander or the False Prophet, with modern Greek translation by A.M. Harmon, 1925 Moving forward to the future, we now have a myriad of superb io games with advanced gameplay and super graphics. These games build greatly upon the core elements of Snake. One such game is Snake.io - a true OG in the snake game genre. Then you have Cubes 2048, which cleverly combines 2048 with Snake. Continue threading until the end, using smaller bottle tops and cardboard discs to graduate the tail of the snake to a smaller diameter.

Add some small beads at the end, tie a knot to secure and trim the excess cord. Either draw or glue on googly eyes to make eyes for your snake. Cut a length of cord approx. 100cm long and tie each end onto the snakes head and body making your marionette. Now let your snake wiggle! Pictures of Jungle and Rainforest Animals - These photos are a great way to show children the different animals which live in the jungle habitat. You could use them as a discussion prompt - what do think about the animal just from the picture? Meanwhile, Abonoteichos, a small fishing village before the arrival of the cult, became an important town and accepted another name, Ionopolis. It is uncertain what role the popularity of Glycon played in the rise of the city. Here are more puppet snakes! You can print colored templates from the link below and have your kids glue parts of the paper together to create the 3D head and finger space. Or, you can print a blank template and have your kids color it in themselves! The cult possibly originated in Macedonia, where similar snake cults had existed for centuries. The Macedonians believed snakes had magical powers relating to fertility and had a rich mythology on this subject, for example the story of Olympias's impregnation by Zeus disguised as a serpent.

Glycon also spelled Glykon ( Ancient Greek: Γλύκων Glýkōn, gen: Γλύκωνος Glýkōnos), was an ancient snake god. He had a large and influential cult within the Roman Empire in the 2nd century, with contemporary satirist Lucian providing the primary literary reference to the deity. Lucian claimed Glycon was created in the mid-2nd century by the Greek prophet Alexander of Abonoteichos. Lucian was ill-disposed toward the cult, calling Alexander a false prophet and accusing the whole enterprise of being a hoax: Glycon himself was supposedly a hand puppet. Our wiggly snake friend has been so much loved and played with I had to make another one so the kids could have a snake each. MATERIALS:
