Description

Unlike bourbon, rye whiskey, or Scotch, which can benefit from a drop of water, Tequila does not improve with added water. My education and training include a thorough knowledge of agave spirits creation from planting agaves to bottling, including distillation. This tequila is suspiciously dark. Usually an anejo tequila maxes out somewhere in the light golden to amber color range, but this is almost a solid brown. It is entirely possible that those older expressions blended in have changed the color, but it’s probable that the artificial coloring is bringing some “unnatural enhancement” to the end result.

Añejo works as a sipper, thanks to its pleasant caramel and vanilla notes that offer a satisfying drinking experience.s Anejo is aged in French Oak for a minimum of 14 months, time for bushels of oaky and spicy flavour to develop in the 100% agave tequila within. Jose Cuervo quite literally set the standard for tequila, and 1800 follows that same process. The spirit starts out with a crop of 100% blue agave plants which are harvested and have their leaves sliced off, leaving the hard core behind. That core is then cooked for about three days in an oven to convert the plant material into sugar, and then placed into large vats to ferment and allow yeast to convert that sugar into alcohol. Gran Centenario Añejo and Jose Cuervo Añejo are the natural alternatives as they are crafted at the same distillery; barrel management makes them sufficiently different, though. While it may not rank among the top Añejo Tequilas, 1800 Añejo is one of the best affordable Añejos available. How to drink it? According to the laws that govern Tequila, if you let it age in an oak barrel between 1 and 3 years it becomes an Añejo; beyond that, it becomes an Extra-Añejo which is tequila’s first class. Does it use additives?

The insights I’ve gained aren’t just from books or hearsay; they are the result of hands-on experience, countless tastings, and an enduring passion for these spirits. Despite not being very complex or having remarkable tasting notes, 1800 Añejo is a reliable option for those on a budget. It is a common practice to store Tequila in the freezer as its alcohol content prevents it from freezing. Generally speaking, Añejo tequilas tend to feel smoother on the palate, thanks to their one to three years spent in aging in oak barrels.

What does the 1800 vintage label shield mean?

With a spicy body and well-founded finish, this is a premium sipping tequila. Presented in a beautiful bottle inspired by the pyramids of the Mayans, this is a great gift for tequila lovers. When serving it, make sure to use large ice cubes to avoid dilution, as watered-down Tequila is not ideal.

How do you drink 1800 Añejo?

Añejo Reserva Tequila is made from 100% Weber blue agave and harvested at its peak, between 8 and 12 years. This tequila is aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of 14 months. The finish is described as spicy and well rounded with flavors of toasted oak, vanilla and caramel. This deep and luxurious tequila is ideal for drinking. What does the 1800 vintage label shield mean? In terms of aging, the four main types of tequila are Blanco (0-59 days), Reposado (60+ days), Añejo (1-3 years), and Extra Añejo (3+ years). Blanco tequilas do not spend time aging in oak, whereas the other three categories do. Based on my experience, I suspect that this Tequila contains additives, which is not surprising as I believe that most, if not all, of Cuervo’s releases, are infused.
