About this deal

Orally administered mebendazole is extensively metabolised primarily by the liver. Plasma concentrations of its major metabolites (amino and hydroxylated amino forms of mebendazole) are substantially higher than those of mebendazole. Impaired hepatic function, impaired metabolism, or impaired biliary elimination may lead to higher plasma levels of mebendazole. Roundworms - the most common roundworm infections are thought to be caused by threadworms, ascaris, hookworms and trichuris. Roundworm eggs usually enter the body by the person eating food or drinking water that contains eggs. The eggs live and hatch in the gut (intestine). Mebendazole, the conjugated forms of mebendazole, and its metabolites likely undergo some degree of enterohepatic recirculation and are excreted in the urine and bile. The apparent elimination half-life after an oral dose ranges from 3 to 6 hours in most patients. Other types of worm infections can occur if you live in the UK; however, they do not occur very often. People who get these infections have usually been travelling in countries where these types of worm infections are common. ADRs identified from clinical trials and post-marketing experience with Anthelmin are included in Table 1. The displayed frequency categories use the following convention:

b ADRs not observed in clinical trials and frequency calculated using “Rule of 3”, as detailed in SmPC guideline 2009. 6276 patients exposed in clinical trials and epidemiological studies, divided by 3 (Frequency = 1/2092). Note: frequencies differ from those reported in the August 2009 CCDS, as these were not calculated using the formula detailed in the SmPC guideline 2009. Anthelmin Plus XL 1 tablet per 35 kg bodyweight. Tablets may be halved to allow accuracy of dosing.

The tablet(s) can be given directly to the dog or disguised in food. No restriction of access to food is required either before or after administration of the product. To ensure administration of a correct dose, body weight should be determined as accurately as possible. Puppies may be wormed with this product from 2 weeks of age and every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age. Thereafter they should be treated at 3 monthly intervals until 6 months of age. Following oral administration, < 10% of the dose reaches the systemic circulation, due to incomplete absorption and to extensive pre-systemic metabolism (first-pass effect). Maximum plasma concentrations are generally seen 2 to 4 hours after administration. Dosing with a high fat meal leads to a modest increase in the bioavailability of mebendazole. Anthelmin Plus Flavour– For treatment of dogs administer 1 tablet per 10kg bodyweight (15 mg/kg bodyweight febantel, 14.4 mg/kg pyrantel and 5 mg/kg praziquantel). This is equivalent to 1 tablet per 10 kg bodyweight. Tablets may be halved/quartered to allow accuracy of dosing. Flukeworms - these worms can live in the blood vessels, gut, lungs or liver. You usually become infected with flukeworms by swimming or washing in fresh water that contains flukeworms. An infection with flukeworms causes a tropical disease called schistosomiasis. particular, the activity spectrum covers Toxocara canis , Toxascaris leonina , Uncinaria stenocephala and Ancylostoma

The rest of this leaflet discusses the medicines that may be used to treat worm infections. If your vet says the tablet can be crushed up and given with food, try crushing it up and mixing it with one of their daily meals (ideally breakfast depending on the time you need to give them their tablet). Make sure they eat all their meal, though, otherwise they may miss some of their medication.
