About this deal

Tomato paste contains 670 milligrams of potassium per quarter-cup. Other tomato products may also contain high levels of potassium. A half-cup of tomato puree has 560 milligrams. A medium fresh tomato has about 290 milligrams. Kidney stones happen when certain materials, usually calcium, build up. Although research is still ongoing, studies show that potassium improves calcium absorption in your kidneys, which can prevent the formation of stones.

Vitamin K’ refers to a small group of vitamins, the two main forms being K1 (phylloquinone) and K2 (menaquinones). Both have similar functions, though more studies are needed to fully understand differences between them. It is believed K2 may be absorbed better and stored for longer in the body than K1. But the body can also convert some of the K1 you eat into K2. FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). Proceedings of the international scientific symposium biodiversity and sustainable diets united against hunger (3–5 November 2010). Moreover, the K-diet is mainly focused on deriving dietary patterns to prevent diseases only in Korea, but the Mediterranean diet is further studied to draw healthy and universal dietary patterns by applying ingredients from other countries' mainland to the Mediterranean diet. From our origins as a small Wall Street partnership to becoming a global firm of more than 80,000 employees today, Morgan Stanley has been committed to clients and communities for 87 years. It is found in sap trees and has a bright red/pink appearance and there is a good chance that you might never encounter Kokam in your lifetime. But if you want an obscure food beginning with the letter ‘K’, then Kokam is a good choice. 20. KudzuThey are smoky and salty which makes them very flavorful, but they are also very good for you as they contain omega fatty acids which will support a healthy diet and lifestyle. 24. King Crab

Next up, you have Kiwi Berries. As you probably expect, these fruits are very similar to regular kiwi fruit. Due to the ‘berry’ in their name, these fruits are basically like a hybrid of a kiwi and a grape.

This is a fruit which is not only used for cooking purposes, but is also widely used for medicinal purposes too.

South Korean street food

For a balanced and filling meal, you can pair these delicious root vegetables with a protein source such as beans or meat, some dark greens or colorful vegetables, and a little fat. Summary For all that virtual interactivity, there is, too, a powerfully traditional sense about much Korean culture. One night in Seoul I had dinner with 84-year-old Shim Young-soon, who is the something like a cross between Delia Smith and Elizabeth David in Korean cuisine. She appeared in her daughter’s restaurant wearing stiff Korean silks. Shim has evangelised Korean cooking for 50 years and watched it grow from being the poor relation of world cuisine to an antioxidant-rich, Michelin-star turn. Kim HY, Park KY. You’ll start in the traditional markets of Insadong and move on to Ikseondong, one of the oldest parts of the city, where you can visit tea houses. I think a highlight is the chance to try octopus that is exceptionally fresh — still wriggling, in fact. Though of course, that’s not to everyone’s taste. What to drink? Soju and makgeolli Soju is an alcoholic Korean drink After the IMF crisis, the president threw money at a new cultural content office, supported by a multibillion-dollar public-private investment fund to promote Korean creative industries and individuals. The effort was galvanised by a flood of cultural imports from Japan (if one thing unites Koreans, it is a long memory about brutal Japanese imperial rule). The drive to eclipse J-pop and J-movies with home-grown culture became a national obsession. Koreans couldn’t stop singing. The launch in 2009 of Superstar K, Korea’s version of Britain’s Got Talent, saw more than 700,000 people apply to audition. By the fourth season in 2012 that number had passed 2 million. These make a yummy addition to any meal, but ensure you cook them thoroughly before eating, otherwise they could cause an upset stomach. 12. Kim ChiNot only kimchi, known as Korea's representative fermented vegetable food but also lactic acid bacteria derived from kimchi have been studied a lot [ 19]. Kim et al. [ 19] confirmed a total of 149 studies on the health functionality of kimchi and kimchi-derived lactic acid bacteria from 1995 to 2017. Kimchi, its extracts, and kimchi-derived functional ingredients have been reported to have various results such as anti-oxidant, anti-mutagenic, lipid-inhibiting effects, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory, immune enhancement, improvement in obesity and blood glucose levels, and protective effects on the skin in cell and animal models [ 19, 20]. In addition, kimchi and its derived functional ingredients prevented cancer development in various cancer cells such as stomach, lung, colon, breast, liver, and uterine cancer cells, as well as in animal models with solid cancer, cancer cell administration, and chemically induced cancer [ 19, 20]. In addition to preclinical investigations, clinical trials have also shown the health benefits of kimchi [ 20]. In one of the clinical trials related to kimchi intake, healthy young men in Korea were given 210 g/day of kimchi for 28 days along with regular meals excluding probiotics [ 21]. As a result, it was found to improve lipid profile and adiponectin levels, which are obesity-related indicators, in serum, as well as inflammatory markers, harmful enzyme activity, and gut microflora in the colon [ 21]. The intake of 210 g/day of kimchi for 12 weeks also reduced levels of serum inflammatory cytokine and improved clinical symptoms in subjects with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) [ 22]. In addition, the intake of kimchi reduced blood pressure and insulin resistance in prediabetic subjects [ 23] and was reported to improve fasting blood glucose and serum lipid levels in healthy young adults [ 24]. The next food on this list is something that is actually commonly used to add flavor to dishes and that is kenchur, or as it is sometimes otherwise known, aromatic ginger. Some people might see this next addition to the list as a bit of a cheat answer because Kalettes are actually a hybrid type of kale. If you do ever encounter kombu in any other types of cuisine, you will not hear it called by this name, instead it is referred to as dasima in Korean culture, and Haidai in Chinese culture. But all of these names are associated with this one specific type of seaweed. 16. Kalettes
