It took us far longer to take out than seats like the Nuna REBL and Britax DualFix which just require to the two Isofix arms to be unclipped. To loosen straps to remove your child you simply press down on a button in the front of the seat and pull.
This Maxi-Cosi AxissFix Car Seat i-Size seat offers the choice of seating direction – either rear-facing from four months until two years (61–87cm), or forward-facing from 15 months to four years (88–105cm). It’s secured using ISOFIX connectors and a top tether. Our testers highly rated this seat’s 360° rotating feature, finding it ideal for toddlers. Tested by Aisling Alsopp, 28, mum to Monty, four months. Most other 360 seats use a rebound bar and have an adjustable leg to prevent the seat from tipping forward in the event of an accident. The top tether system adds another level of complexity when fitting the seat - you have to thread the belt under the rear headrest and then go in through the boot to hook it onto the tether point. So it's not the sort of seat you want to be moving between cars on a regular basis.There are so many features that make my life easier: 90 degree swivel - so easy to put my child in and out. Easy to adjust harness. ISOFIX. Washable fabric covering. Multi level recline. There are too many to mention them all but these are the ones that particularly stand out for me. It looks gorgeous too, and the rotating feature is amazingly easy to use. The seat of the AxissFix Plus allows your child to rearward face up until they are 87cm in height (which is about two years old). After that, the seat rotates into a forward facing seat for children of 87cm-105cm. A clip on the bottom of the seat is used to specify which ‘mode’ it is being used in, preventing the seat from swivelling the entire 360 degrees in one turn. There are four reclining positions in both directions on the Maxi Cosi AxissFix Plus – great for snoozing on the go, which Neve tends to do the minute we get in the car! Built with practicality in mind, another clever feature of this seat is the hooks present on both straps. These nifty rubber hooks mean that the straps mean that they can be clipped up out of the way whilst you get your child in the seat – a massive help with a very wriggly toddler! Just like other car seats in the Axissfix family, the Axissfix Air is suitable from 4 months old and is to be installed rearward facing in your car using the Isofix and top tether connection. The Axissfix Air allows rearward facing travel up to 87cm which is approximately 2 years old and after this age, the seat will rotate to a forward-facing position to be used to 4 years old. You can also rest assured that the Axissfix Air complies with the latest iSize legislation and in the rearward facing position, your little one is as safe as possible. So, what is different about this seat? Don’t forget that the Axissfix Air can rearward face to approximately 2 years old which we would always recommend however when tested forward facing against other Maxi Cosi forward facing seat, the Axissfix Air is 55% safer.The five point harness on the AxissFix Plus is one of my favourite elements of the chair. The straps are really long when fully extended which I found a real positive, making it super easy to get even the most wriggly of children in and out. The straps also have a rubber underside, making it harder for younger babies to slip out of the harness and keeping the protective shoulder pads in place. The Maxi-Cosi AxissFix also offers great value for money, as it can be used for a longer period of time compared to other car seats. This is due to the adjustable features and durable construction, which make it a great investment for parents looking for a car seat that can be used for multiple years. On the occasions when my son has a tantrum about getting in the car, the swivel on the chair makes it much easier for me to get him in the car and strapped in. I don't have to step into the car any more!
Choosing - and buying - a car seat for your baby or child is a pain. It means visiting every child seat manufacturer - either online or in-store - to see if their seat fits your car and, if it does, it goes where you want it to. So we decided to do something about it. We built a car seat choosing tool that starts with the most important thing (well, after your child, that is): your car. The only real con I can identify is the fact it can only be used rearward facing until approximately 2 years. For safety conscious parents who have been following the iSize regulations closely, they may prefer a seat that can remain rearward facing until they are four. For us personally, we would most likely change to forward facing within this time scale anyway, so it wasn’t a major concern for me. The price could be a little lower as I think many families won't be able to afford this car seat but for me, saftey comes first and as mentioned above, the seat if used over four years means the seat isn't too costly (as long as you're not involved in an accident in the meantime!). There isn’t much I can critique about the Maxi Cosi Axiss Fix Plus, as it has been a big hit overall. Mike installed the seat for me, however, I think it was so straight forward that I may have been able to do this on my own without assistance (this is a rarity!). There are also detailed videos available on YouTube which may be easier to follow for those that prefer visual instructions. Keeping your little one rearward facing for as long as possible is for sure the safest option however we live in a world of choice and where ERF isn’t always possible or circumstances mean you want/need a forward-facing seat then the Axissfix Air is a great option. Yesterday we went down to the Transport Research Laboratory to look at the brand new Axissfix Air; the world’s first car seat with built in airbags and see the 2-year long journey Maxi Cosi have taken to develop this innovative car seat. Once the seat is fitted in your car, you specify whether you are using the seat in forward facing or rearward facing mode using the scale on the bottom of the seat.
