Description

Dixit Oddysey is nearly the same as original Dixit when it comes to rules. As far as I remember it has all the rules the original had, plus some additions for bigger number of players. It also has a set of pieces for greater number of players (up to 12, I think). The biggest difference are the actual cards - those are entirely new when compared to original. There’s plenty of fun to be had with Dixit, although depending on the box that you have, you may only be able to play it with a certain number of people…but which player count is right for you? One of the players is the storyteller for the game turn. Before even looking at the image cards in his or her hand, the storyteller says something out loud to the other players (see the various forms of what the storyteller can say in the basic rules). Dixit Jinx is a spin-off with a similar gameplay mechanic of describing cards in a tableau, published in 2012. [28] However, Jinx uses a streamlined set of equipment and more abstract images. It was designed by Josep M. Allué and illustrated by Dominique Ehrhard. [29] Play has been described as a cross between Dixit and Jungle Speed. [30]

Each player then counts the number of unit squares in his/her remaining pieces (1 unit square = -1 point). I first came across Dixit Odyssey in 2016. I was with a bunch of friends and they introduced me to what later became my favourite board game. Now, every player except for the narrator must identify the narrator’s card using their voting tokens. Players are not allowed to vote on their own cards.

Scoring

The remaining image cards form the draw pile. Each player takes a green voting token. Only one of the players, who will be the storyteller for the first game turn, takes a red voting token in addition to his or her green voting token. Game Overview The rules for Dixit Odyssey actually includes two other variants, one called Dixit Party for 6-12 players and one called Team Dixit for 6, 8, 10, or 12 players, but both are actually quite fiddly when it comes to their rules, with Dixit Party introducing an element wherein the similar votes gets more points but the storyteller can prevent other players from getting them, and Team Dixit being a watered-down team based version of the base game. Example: Tom has voted for image number 3 as have 5 other players. Tom would normally score 6 points, but since the maximum number of points scored is limited to 5, he'll only score 5, the maximum, this turn. Chris though, has voted with Amanda for image number 2. Unfortunately, that image was chosen by the storyteller with the red vote token, so they score no points. Kate has voted for an image which got no votes other than her own. She therefore scores no points. That being said, since the game’s rules were mostly written with 4-6 players in mind, this is the sweet spot of Dixit in terms of player count, and most games will be a breeze to play in terms of game length and rules complexity, never lasting longer than it needs to be while also still being very easy to teach.

The goal for the players is to find the image of the storyteller from among those revealed. Each player secretly votes for the image they believe to be the storyteller's (the storyteller does not participate) by using their voting board. This was an unsuccessful attempt from Libellud to expand the franchise well before Stella: Dixit Universe did it in 2021. However, without the original designer, or any of the artists from Dixit, it failed to launch into the same stardom. A new 84 cards, with a new artist, this time it’s Marina Coudray. These cards are absolutely stunning, and when they were first released they changed the gold highlights to gold foil. So that the cards shined in the right light. Dixit: HarmoniesThe scout starts the matching phase of the game by pointing to one of the cards in the tableau which they had selected. All players (including the scout) who selected the same card receive a spark and fill in two stars on their Personal Slate matching that card position. If only one other player (in addition to the scout) selected the same card, those two players receive a super spark and fill in three stars on their Personal Slate. If no players selected the same card, the scout has fallen: they are unable to continue filling stars or bonus stars for this round, and the First Scout Token is passed on to the next player. Because the scout 's turn continues until that scout has fallen, the scout should start with the most obvious match first, to ensure they can accumulate some sparks. The round continues until all players have fallen, or the players who have not served as scout have no cards left to confirm. [32]
