We put two travel-friendly multi-tools to the test. Here, the Leatherman Style PS takes on the Gerber Dime Travel. Great little multi tool was a gift for my son to keep close for his work. He was pleased and so was I. It’s really useful and oh so small.

The Gerber Dime had a hard time getting into it at all and it took some doing to get the cut you see in the picture. Updated September 2023: We've added the Leatherman Raptor Rescue, SOG Parashears, and Leatherman Style PS. We've also updated pricing and availability. Here is our round by round, blow by blow, call of the battle of the mini multi-tools… Best Design and Function: Gerber Dime

The lanyard ring is of much greater importance on micro multi tools than full sized ones. The one on the Dime unfortunately doesn’t seem to take this into account. It’s a tiny little ring with a small keyring on it. It makes it very easy to connect to your keychain but also breaks when just a little force is applied to it, leaving you with a keychain multi tool that won’t stay on your keychain anymore. Comparing the scissors is, as the expression goes, same song, different verse. The Dime’s can cut, but nowhere near as well as the Style’s.To be honest, I came into this test expecting to hate the Dime Travel. I’ve previously tested a standard model, and it was one of the worst multi-tools I’ve ever owned. Adam Molina is a product review expert and seasoned everyday-carry enthusiast. It’s meant to be the tool that you can bring with you no matter where you’re going. It’s small enough to fit on your keychain and light enough that you won’t even notice it’s there. Gerber offers the Dime in two versions and several different colors. Gerber Dime Tools It also worked quite well on the same test but felt more flimsy and had a harder time cutting through plastic. Best File: Leatherman Squirt PS4

Keep it close by on you keychain as you never know when it might come in handy with its copious amounts of useful tools. The brilliantly thought out tool selection solves many problems that may occur during travel and day to day life. The most ingenious of which is the evolutionary zipper hook, which attaches to and make opening a broken luggage zipper super easy. As well as a set of needle nose stainless steel pliers and wire cutters that elegantly butterfly open, theres a set of spring-loaded scissors, medium and small flat drivers, tweezers, a bottle opener that is exposed even when the tool is closed, and a fine and coarse file.

You don’t want to be the guy fumbling with his multi-tool before he can open a girl’s beer. Not cool. Best Blade: Gerber Dime The Leatherman has similar features but is not as pronounced or useful. The Gerber Dime has ‘one upped’ them on the pliers. Best Scissors: Leatherman Squirt PS4 Multi-tool

The Leatherman has a flip-out opener on the screwdriver which is thin and gets the job done… but not that well. To avoid that situation altogether, here are some of the best TSA-friendly tools that you can take with you on your next trip. You may be familiar with the Gerber Dime, the neat, mini keychain multi-tool with loads of useful every-day tools. The Micra has been around for a while and is extremely popular. It has a good reputation for quality and maintains it by keeping things simple. The scissors in the Micra work better at this size than the pliers on the Dime do, but many people prefer pliers to scissors even so. This is nice it has all i need in a small carry tool. replaced my CRKT kiss on my key ring, totally legal. well made solid. Along with SAK got my EDC carry requirements sorted. Well worth considering as an everyday carry option. Finishing out the list are the pair of screwdrivers, one a wide flathead, useful for driving screws as well as prying, and a smaller pointed screwdriver, for Phillips head and smaller flathead screws. This is where the file is also found, on either side of the Phillips driver are a hatched, and double-hatched file, neither of which have been found to be useful.
