With a number of our former players and staff having suffered with and also died following battles with similar diseases, we know just how hard it can be to witness those we love begin to slip away. Whilst those suffering undoubtedly go through the traumas and frustrations that are brought about by the diseases, it also places an immense amount of pressure on the loved ones who are caring for them. John’s association with the hospice needs no further discussion and it is as a result of his strong links with colleagues at the Rotherham Hospice that the club has continued to form a strong relationship, which continues to grow with the help of club Chairman Tony Stewart – who has also been a long-term supporter of the hospice located on Broom Lane. I know some people will see my name in big letters and my photo on the front and think ‘that’s a bit self-indulgent’ but that is absolutely not the intention of bringing out the book.
