As long-time friends and collaborators, Rox and Riley got thinking about what these mythical underwater creatures might look like, intertwined with their surroundings, beautiful to the point of myth. Probably the biggest weakness most budget and mid-range electric scooters have is the brakes. I’ve tested more than my share of e-scooters, and I’ve found that even some of the best ones can’t implement their braking system as well as they should. That isn’t the case with the RS3.
Lead singer of The Haze and Riley’s best friend, Llewan Matthews, 19, said that his mate’s legacy will live on through the band’s music. Testing the Riley Scooters RS3 was a slightly different process than testing other folding scooters because of its folding mechanism. I spent quite a bit of time trying to familiarize myself with its folding process by watching the tutorial video several times and practicing, then trying to figure out different ways to simplify the process. I also tested that process out in public to see how convenient it is to do when users are out of their comfort zone.Crystabel Riley: Practically to do as much assisting as possible, and to create your own community [of practice]. Also approach the products you use, your materials, as only a starting point, and share with your community to reduce waste and build your materials in a responsible way. Taking a principled and conscientious approach to her practice, Riley – who has collaborated with publications including Dazed and Beauty Papers , and industry big-wigs like Juergen Teller and Robbie Spencer – works almost exclusively with ethical and vegan brands, and is taking steps towards being zero waste. It’s an ethos she applies to both her personal life and work. At the same time, Keira, who I was in the band with, began doing performance art with another project, New Noveta, who I then collaborated with for their make-up direction. For years I was making compostable prosthetic noses, cheeks built out of local waxes, and all sorts of projects that really pushed me to my extremes as an artist. I was also trying to explore the ethics around the make-up and materials I was working with. I feel like I learned a lot through those unique projects.
The only thing about this is that the initial unfolding does take longer. Unless you’ve done it many times, unfolding the electric scooter isn’t very intuitive or straightforward. So, before doing anything else, you must watch the folding and unfolding video that Riley Scooters has thoughtfully created for first-time users. And, you might have to play it again as you’re going through the motions. Crystabel Riley: Understanding colour, balance, symmetry and patterns, and working in a free-hand way, under immense pressure, is something I am comfortable with and has been instinctual. But I have worked really hard on my craft, technically. The organisation that is required within the mind has been something I have had to work hard on. I wish that the folding mechanisms were a lot more elegant, but overall the Riley Scooters RS3 is one of the best electric scooters I’ve tested. There are some not-so-obvious compromises here like its short 15.5-mile range and the smaller 8.5-inch pneumatic tires (though I suspect the latter has more to do with making it as compact as possible). However, it’s still surprising how affordable it is considering everything it has on offer.

And I think parents need to know that it is not obvious. I thought he was living his best life at the time, recording his music, playing in the band. He clearly wasn't.
