For a road running shoe, I was pretty impressed with how the Adrenaline GTS 21 performed in all these environments, proving to be much more versatile than I was expecting.

In their quest to create the best running shoe, Brooks has developed this mesh upper running shoe designed for intense training. Buying a Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 means you have a shoe that is suitable for running on asphalt. The price is the usual for a good running shoe, around one hundred euros. As is normal at this price point there is guaranteed excellent quality and cushioning. The next model, the Adrenaline GTS 22, is also interesting. Medium Weight Running Shoe When these arrived I was excited to review them because I have never run in a pair of Adrenalines before. When I opened them up I was immediately impressed. However similar to the other issues that I experienced with this shoe, the breathability issue seemed to disappear as I wore the shoe in. The toe box also feels more comfortable now after a few miles, although I’d still prefer a bit more room for my toes to splay. The Landing

The shoe hugged my foot nicely, with a super cozy upper, moderate but noticeable arch support, and a really comfortable padded heel counter with no slip issues. The transition of the shoe also feels smoother than the previous Adrenaline GTS 19 and 20 models that I’ve tried, partly thanks to the added cushioning. DNA Loft cushioning is a staple for the Adrenaline GTS. Now, Brooks extended the soft foam from the heel all the way to the forefoot to maximize cushioning, making each stride buttery smooth. Add in BioMoGo DNA foam to the midsole for heightened responsiveness and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a balanced, smooth ride.

If you’re familiar with and/or a fan of the Adrenaline 21 you don’t need to read the rest of this review; it’s the same excellent shoe it’s always been. If you’re new to the model it’s a wonderfully cushioned, almost old-school running shoe that has a high heel to toe drop (12mm), weighs a little on the heavy side and is generally the perfect long-run shoe for those who simply want the most reliability and the least fuss for their long runs. Lofty ambitionA 10k was their maiden voyage. The drop and firmness took some getting used to. I appreciated their width because it prevented the usual tightness I experience in the midfoot.

Most of the immediate issues such as slightly rigid landing, limited breathability, and tightness in the forefoot began to disappear after 20 miles or so as I wore in the shoes and only got better from there. But for some runners, this is simply too long a wait to keep faith. I joked with my running friends that they are my “dad shoes” because they look like a pair my dad would wear along with me now being the father of two little ones. The Adrenaline underwent a monumental change between the 18th and 19th editions. They eliminated the medial post and installed their guide rail system in its place.

Guide Rails support system encourages natural motion of knees and hips, reducing chance of injury over time However this is partly down to the resistant and durable materials that Brooks uses – so if you’re not in a rush, I guess a little break-in time is a fair trade-off for a great quality pair of trainers that will last you countless miles. It’s very important to know your running gait so that we can advise and fit the correct shoes according to your own individual requirements. Can’t get into store?
