It is a tragedy that King Lear was killed in a tragedy caused by the foolish decision to give away the kingdom and his daughters. As a result of this transfer, the king’s power and authority were delegated to the young generation, who mishandle the kingdom and destroy it. How Many Acts Are In King Lear? Anyways, I forced myself to finish this one bc I don't like reviewing books when I've not reached the end, but it was very much a waste of time. I'd love to read a good multi-generational historical novel about strong women during the world wars... but this was definitely not it. The novel, written by the woman who was King lear’s mother, is named Learwife, and it takes place entirely within the mind of the woman who was mother to Regan, Goneril, and Cordelia: Berte, Queen lear‘s wife. The Tragic Downfall Of King Lea I thoroughly enjoyed the gentle pace and getting to know all the members of the Bolitho family who showed plenty of war time spirit, resilience and love for one another. The females take centre stage as you’d expect given the title and it’s interesting to witness the changing of attitudes over time. Clara’s past is revealed through Caroline’s rummage through a trunk that mysteriously ends up in her hands and I loved Caroline’s voice in the prologue which sets the scene perfectly for all that follows.

Edmund sees Cordelia as one of the women he never had. He loves her so much that he is willing to sacrifice everything to keep her safe. The good news is that he has been successful in his endeavors. What Do Cornwall And Regan Do To This Nobleman As Punishment? Credit: blogspot.comI've not read Fern Brittton before but was aware of her as a television personality. I was curious and did not have very high expectations as usually its the celebrity's name that sells the book not the capability of the writing. I have since seen an interview with her in which she said this was the story of her family. That makes it much more intriguing.

As a result of his treason, Cornwall gouged out both of Gloucester’s eyes, which Regan encouraged him to do. A member of Cornwall’s staff tried to prevent Gloucester from being harmed by the king. Who Kills Cornwall In King Lear? By the time we reach the present day, we meet Caroline, Hannah's daughter, who now has her own daughter, Natalie. Caroline has been aware of some of the family secrets for a while and knows that she descends from string, capable women who prospered despite the pitfalls of their lives, but she has never known the identity of her father. Unexpectedly she receives a trunk containing some of her grandfather Ernest's possessions & amongst the old possessions she also find strands of her family history. From the Sunday Times bestselling author comes a sweeping, epic novel of mothers and daughters, secrets and lies, and a love that lasts a lifetime… As Edmund seeks to steal his father’s fortune, he betrays his father to Cornwall, who turns him into the new Earl of Gloucester, and the old Earl is arrested. With his bare hands, Cornwall stomps out one eye of Gloucester with his heel and then digs out the other. Gloucester’s Blindness Is A Metaphor Hannah has always been curious about her mother’s mysterious past, but the outbreak of the Second World War casts everything in a new light. The Daughter’s Of Cornwell is an engrossing, multi generational family saga which was hugely enjoyable.
