In Drumming (Taiwan) (Pledge Drive Version), the scene of the Teletubbies running off to their destination is cut out. This is the first episode to have the video segment filmed at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The other three episodes were See-Saw, Humpty Dumpty, and Hey Diddle Diddle.

Numbers 4 (India) (US Original PBS Version and US Rerun Version) (Bottom Left Window Sketch in the US Original PBS Version, Top Left Window Sketch in the US Rerun Version)This is the first episode to feature a voice trumpet segment and the first to feature a nursery rhyme. This is also the first time that the voice trumpet sings. The Stamping and Stepping Dance segment was featured in the VHS Dance with the Teletubbies. It was the first dance on the tape.

In Emily and the Trap (UK Version), My Mum's Keyboard, Carnival (UK Version), Wake Up!, Numbers - 4 (2nd UK Version), PBS Versions of Photo Faces (Pledge Drive Version), Dirty Dog (Original PBS Version and Pledge Drive Version), Music with Debbie 2 (Rerun Version), Handy Hands (Pledge Drive Version), The Gingerbread Boy (Rerun Version), Rollerblading (Rerun Version), Colors - Orange (Sprout Version), Towers (Sprout Version), Crazy Golf (Pledge Drive Version), and Erhu Fiddle (Pledge Drive Version), the Teletubbies are silent when the Pink House appears. A third theory centres around King James II, who was formerly known as the Duke of York. In 1688 he marched troops to Salisbury Plain to resist the invasion of William of Orange, but he had to retreat when his men started to defect. Running (US Original PBS Version, US Pledge Drive Version, and US Rerun Version) (Bottom Right Window Sketch) The Teletubbies join in a game when a voice trumpet sings the Grand Old Duke of York. The Magic Windmill spins and the Teletubbies watch as Po gets a musical transmission featuring King Pleasure and The Biscuit Boys singing The Grand Old Duke of York. Then the Teletubbies head to the path to do The Stamping and Stepping Dance, as they march down the path.James II (1633–1701), formerly Duke of York, who in 1688 marched his troops to Salisbury Plain to resist the invasion from his son-in-law William of Orange, only to retreat and disperse them as his support began to evaporate. This particular old duke wanted to prise the throne from the fingers of Lancastrian Henry VI, and the feud between the Yorks and Lancasters is what led to the Wars of the Roses. Music with Debbie 2 (US Pledge Drive Version and US Rerun Version) (Bottom Right Window Sketch in the US Pledge Drive Version, Bottom Left Window Sketch in the US Rerun Version) E. Knowles, Oxford Dictionary of Quotations (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1941, 6th edn., 2004). The duke in question has been argued to be Richard, Duke of York (1411–1460), whose forces were outnumbered and defeated at the Battle of Wakefield in northern England, on 30 December 1460. Well they performed on a delightful, hour long video entitled “The Grand Old Duke Of York”. A compilation of Nursery Rhymes and children’s songs. The performances are assured, well sung and beautifully choreographed. The sets are bright and colourful and the accompaniments are varied, professionally produced and fun. For nearly a quarter of a century each of my grandchildren and now my great-grandchildren have been spell-bound by these young singers and performers. With no exaggeration at all the video has been played hundreds quite possibly thousands of times and has never failed to entrance each child that came to stay. My latest great-grandchild Ruby is two, each week she comes to stay for a day; during the day “The Grand Old Duke Of York” will get played at least 3 times, often more.As far as I can ascertain the children were all pupils at the Barbara Speake Stage School. An interesting school with a number of very well known alumni; you can find them on FaceBook here and there’s more about Barbara Speake and the school at Wikipedia here. In The Grand Old Duke of York, and the PBS Pledge Drive Version of Drumming (Taiwan), the scene of the Teletubbies running off to their destination is cut out.

The lyrics of ‘Grand Old Duke’ have come to stand for futile and useless military (or general) action. The men are marched up, then down, and the only thing to be said of it is that once they were up there, they were “up”, and once they were down again, they were “down”. Nothing else was achieved. This reflects the story of all three dukes trying to overcome something but ending up right where they started, but particularly Richard, Duke of York in the Battle of Wakefield and Wars of the Roses. How many men did the Grand Old Duke of York have? In Dog Kennel, and the PBS Rerun Version of Flower Festival, the Magic Windmill stops spinning, but then it goes to The Tip Toe Dance. J. Orchard Halliwell-Phillipps and Henry Chettle, eds, Tarlton's Jests: And News Out of Purgatory (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1844), p. xxix. The first two segments of this episode were featured in the VHS Nursery Rhymes and the audio tape Fun with the Teletubbies. In the 1642 version of the song, the Grand Old Duke (referred to as “The King of France”) has forty thousand men, and there’s also a Dutch version of the song, which is about Prince Maurice of Orange instead, that lists a hundred thousand men. Cat's Night Out (US Original PBS Version and US Rerun Version) (Bottom Left Window Sketch in the US Original PBS Version, Bottom Right Window Sketch in the US Rerun Version) After the scene of the windmill spinning in the Magical Event sequence, the scenes of the Teletubbies going to the Magical Event place and the Baby Sun laughing have been cut out.
