About this deal

The usefulness of these features is questionable, with most of these alerts coming in the form of indecipherable bleeps. However, the addition of voice control is good and by uttering the words “Okay Garmin”, you can instruct the camera to save important footage or take a picture, for example. This is the same night capture (non-headlight) shown above but brightened somewhat to prove that the 622GW captures detail exceedingly well. The 622GW’s sensor is anOmnivision OS08A10, which I’ve never seen before. I’m sure a large part of the credit for quality goes to this sensor, but Nextbase’s claims about tuning the quad-core processor inside have merit as well. product/helpAdviseTab.hbs -->

On one side, there's a rubber cover over a port for attaching a rear camera, while the other side sees a power button and an SD card slot. At the bottom of the touchscreen and, there's a red button that you can tap to make sure important footage is saved. The 622GW sensor should do this automatically if you hit the brakes relatively hard, but the physical button gives some extra reassurance - as well as allowing you to save footage like near-misses, which may not require harsh braking, for example. Although Garmin advertises a full 1440p resolution, we found the footage a little grainy at this res, but that’s only when you really punch in on the details. However, a wider 180-degree lens (as opposed to the 140-degrees on the Nextbase) captures far more out of the front windscreen and even to the left and right of the vehicle. style>

The GPS alternative means drivers can be found easily even in remote locations. But you'll still need to make the phone call for help. For more serious incidents, there's also EmergencySOS, which works even in those areas where phone signal and internet connectivity are a problem. The adhesive mount isn't at all easy to remove from your windscreen, so if you plan to change it into different vehicles frequently, opt for the suction mount. Removing the mount also lets you access the removable battery, which is great for prolonging the life of the unit.

You'll get a three-month free trial for EmergencySOS. After that, you'll need to pay for a subscription to the service. Previous generations of Nextbase dash cams have been massively frustrating to use, often failing to provide a stable connection to transfer still images and video between phone and camera, but things have improved. The set-up process is still a little fiddly and time-consuming, and the Wi-Fi connection between devices sometimes fails, but we managed to retrieve some imagery and footage after a few attempts.Discover the range of Motormax reversing cameras. The upgrade to the EmergencySOS feature on previous Nextbase dash cams allows drivers to easily tell emergency services where they are if they're involved in an accident or need help. a>
