Once you’ve got rid of all the old sealant, clean the area you’ll be working on – vacuum up any grit and dust, then clean the shower tray and tiles. As sealant won’t work on damp surfaces, make sure that they are thoroughly dry before you start work (we recommend having a cuppa while you wait for the surface to totally dry!). Step 4: Mix up building sand and cement to create a mortar. Spread a thin layer carefully over the area where the shower tray is going to go. Position the shower tray on top of this and use a spirit level to ensure that everything is completely level. Allow to dry for around 24 hours. Load the sealant tube into a caulking gun and squeeze the trigger to apply a steady and even bead of sealant along the joint between the shower tray and the tiles or wall. Keep the pressure consistent for a smooth application. Work in small sections, approximately 12-18 inches at a time, to ensure you have enough time to shape and smooth the sealant before it starts to set. Remove old sealant – Use a sealant remover to dissolve the existing sealant, or, carefully scrape at it with a plastic or metal blade.

Read through the instructions on the sealant before you start so that you know how long it will take to cure and how to get the best results. Our fresh design principles, coupled with modern manufacturing techniques and carefully selected materials mean we are able to deliver mass-manufactured, robust, water-tight seals that have universal fit and an indefinite life span. If there is old sealant around your shower tray, it’s crucial to remove it completely. Use a utility knife or scraper to carefully cut and peel away the old sealant. Be cautious not to damage the shower tray or tiles. After removing the majority of the sealant, use sandpaper to smooth out any remaining residue. Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol or acetone to ensure a clean surface for the new sealant to adhere to. Byretech's Shower Seals are gloss white and are easily cut to size. We profile one end to make fitting extremely simple and even the sealant is included in the kit too.Byretech design, manufacture and supply a clever range of Shower Tray Seals for all types of shower trays. We now do Vertical Seals to match too, so you can get your shower watertight. Allow to cure fully according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Usually, fresh silicone should be left to dry or cure for a minimum of 24 hours, although this depends on the brand and type of sealant. Preparation is the most important part of applying silicone sealant, follow these top tips to ensure the best possible results. Whether you are resealing the shower enclosure in the bathroom at home or you are a contractor planning on sealing showers for a large development, the best advice we can give you is: Cut the application nozzle on the sealant tube at a 45 degree angle, ensure the hole is not too big. The nozzle will have marks indicating where and how to trim the nozzle. A 5mm hole is typical for the majority of applications, but it can be enlarged if a wider bead is needed.

Step 5 - Use a spirit level to ensure that the tray is completely level the whole way around. This is one of the most important steps in installing a shower tray as a tray that isn’t level will cause issues with drainage and water could gather on one side of the tray and potentially overflow. Trays are designed so that the water runs towards the waste outlet, so there’s no need to tilt the tray. Once you’ve completed each line of sealant, release the pressure from the application gun or it will continue to flow from the nozzle. Wipe the excess away and replace the cap.

Place the smoothing tool against the tray and tiles, start from the point where you first applied the sealant and apply gentle yet consistent pressure pulling the tool along the length of the tray to remove excess sealant leaving an even bead. Choose the correct type of silicone sealant that is compatible with your chosen wall or floor coverings (such as natural stone, porcelain tiles or ceramic tiles). Consult the tile supplier or sealant manufacturer for further guidance. Give the area a final wipe down with a clean damp cloth to remove any residual detergent but do not get the area wet.
