About this deal

Snell: Dean Snell – Inventor or co-inventor of the Titleist Pro V1, TaylorMade TP, Penta, Project (a), and Tour Preferred. Klatt worked for several well known golf brands and did not like the direction things were going. Higher prices, less innovation. As with many of the other DTC brands, Seed recognised that golf equipment, specifically balls, are often extremely overpriced due to the huge overheads the leading manufacturers incur while trying to outdo each other. A nano-engineered transition layer to manage the interface between the mantle and a thin cast urethane cover delivers spin, control, and feel to match any ball on the market, including even the Titleist ProV1 and TaylorMade TP5. I was expecting comparisons between ProV1 and other big name OEM’s, but it was nice to find the other balls that we never get a chance to test because they are not carried on local golf shops.

So while Titleist have to factor all of that into their pricing of a box of ProV1 balls, DTC companies can produce a golf ball of the same (or very similar) quality but come in at a significantly lower price point, sometimes at as little as half the cost of the ‘name’ brand. The My Tour Ball is a phenomenal all-around performer from tee to green. Take that performance and combine it with the lowest price of any ball in this tests we can’t think of any reason why you shouldn’t try Snell’s My Tour Ball. Imagine the fun you can have with a box of these bad boys three unsuspecting golf pals completely in the dark about it. Even with the ugliest of swings you're hitting fairway after fairway, much to their surprise and annoyance, while you try to downplay it by muttering things like "I've really got it going today" or "I wish I could play like this every week".That’s right, no more hooks or slices. This ball actually self corrects in flight. Sure, it’s illegal for tournament play, but if you’re playing for pleasure then no harm no foul, right? Besides, "if you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'" as some would say. The only downside to Polara golf balls (other than them being illegal for competition play!) is that you will lose distance on the more wayward shots that need to self correct too much, as the spin can cause it to nose dive. That’s a small price to pay to get rid of that slice though, surely? Another new aspect to talk about is the unique Stripe option, which features a lime green and grey coloured band that wraps around the ball. Now, this look won't be for everyone, but we felt it created a very clear alignment aid off the tee and on the green. When you putt, the stripe clearly shows how effectively the ball is rolling end-over-end. The soft, cast urethane cover works with the mantle layer to create excellent short game spin, control, feel and durability The founder of this company, Dean Snell, spent many years with Titleist and TaylorMade in their golf ball research and development before branching out on his own to great success.

Most of you have heard of Titleist ProV1, Callaway Chrome Soft and TaylorMade TP5 golf balls. You may have even played with them but even if you haven’t then you’ll surely be aware that most of the world’s top players use these balls so they must be really good. They are indeed really good, and unsurprisingly, they aren't cheap.

3UP:

Without boring you with the specifics, the dimples are set up in a way that allows the ball to straighten itself in the air. The ball has to be aligned a certain way for it to function correctly, which is of course easy to do from the tee but not really possible on the fairway unless you are playing lift and place winter rules. Designed for the faster swingers, we did notice it was one of the shortest models for distance in our testing when compared to the other offerings in this guide. That being said, if you already hit it far, and want more control in the short game, then this is definitely a ball to consider, and we think it looks great too with the gold alignment line. Cover material -Urethane-covered balls offer the best spin control and feel but do cost more. Experiment to see if you notice enough of a difference to justify the extra cost. MC: I usually play TaylorMade TP5X as I like the speed and sound off the face and the control it offers around the green. Within nine holes it was clear both Snell balls were quality products. For me there’s a definite difference in sound, with the Red sounding slightly harder. Spoiler alert: there is. It’s called the Polara ball and it flies straight no matter how much side spin you put on it.Lately we’ve been inundated with a rash of direct to consumer golf balls. Each claims to be something extraordinary. They’re “Tour Level’ or “Really straight”, and each ball pushes some sort of outstanding value. However, it was around the greens where the Get Sum was slightly let down. When hitting a full shot, it had some receptiveness and grab, but, when chipping or pitching, it would not really react, rolling out once it made impact with the turf. On the subject of price, the Polara doesn’t come cheap but they should last you longer than the average golf ball because they’re much harder to lose!
