In all that time I have only had one caseof someone having a mild allergic reaction to the Bepanthen. While new tattoos (hopefully!) look great, because a needle is used to insert ink beneath your skin, having one done is technically also a medical procedure. Similar to an open wound, tattoos require careful aftercare to avoid scarring and infection, so always wash your hands before caring for your unhealed tattoo. Looking after a new tattoo or piercing is exceptionally important as it can stop infection, preserve colour and ensure that longevity of the body modification or artwork is achieved. We offer a large range of piercing and tattoo aftercare products designed to ensure that your new body art is well looked after from the start, and that the guesswork is taken out of keeping the area sterile and aiding the healing process. So what’s actually in Bepanthen nappy rash cream? If you know what’s in it you can work out if you may have an allergic reaction to it. Here are the Ingredients: The strong ingredients in both of these products that make them great antiseptics are too harsh for your freshly inked skin, and can cause it to dry out and scab over as they don’t provide any moisture.

There are plenty of alternatives to Bepanthen. I now mostly use Saniderm Tatoo bandagesfor most of my clients. However, there are environmental concerns around Ozokerite due to its origin in the petrochemical industry. Continue doing this every day until it’s healed. I always say it takes two weeks to fully settle into the skin. Bepanthen contains petroleum, which provides the skin with a protective barrier. However, this also stops the skin from breathing which can significantly slow down the healing process and cause scabs to become mushy, which makes them easy to catch and pull off.

Don’t overexpose your tattoo to sun.A fresh tattoo is a raw open wound so it will have no natural protection from the sun – even tiny amounts of UV rays can cause damage. Don’t use suncream either until your tattoo is fully healed and sunbeds are definitely a no!

Don’t apply irritants: A basic, fragrance free moisturiser (not Vaseline) is all you need to keep your tat hydrated. Apply 2-3 times a day until healed, or as instructed by your artist. Do as your artist tells you. They will advise you of how long to leave it wrapped, what to expect and maybe even some aftercare products they’ve had good experiences with. They know best. However, as the ingredients are the same, you are just as likely [or unlikely] to have an allergic reaction to this as the original version. So what’s the Difference between Bepanthen and Bepanthen Tattoo? Dabbing a few dots of the ointment on the skin and leaving it a minute to warm up makes it easier to spread without dragging the skin. One of the most widely used products for tattoo aftercare is Bepanthen Ointment, even though its primarily used on babies to protect from and heal nappy rash. The qualities of Bepanthen also make it a very effective tattoo aftercare, if used correctly! Easy to apply, Bepanthen forms a breathable barrier over the wound preventing germs from getting in whilst also trapping the skins natural moisture, thus aiding in skin repair and regeneration. Its properties make it a gentle skin cream with no harmful substances, hence why it’s ideal for baby skin. A research study looked at Dexpanthenol use specifically for tattooed skin and found it safe and well tolerated. However, it’s important to note this was not on freshly tattooed skin. Lanolin The Ingredients are: Aqua, Lanolin, Paraffinum liquidum, Petrolatum, Panthenol, Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil, Cera alba, Cetyl alcohol, Stearyl alcohol, Ozokerite, Glyceryl oleate, Lanolin alcohol. Around about this time you might start to itch like mad! It will take a lot of willpower to resist the urge to scratch, but it's important that you leave it alone. This is part of the healing process, so gently apply moisturiser and grit your teeth until the itching subsides.
