About this deal

In a tweet on July 9, Knizia had stated that the game would appear in eleven languages not covered by Ravensburger, but following the publicity of his original announcement, a twelfth language edition has been signed. Those languages are Dutch (from 999 Games); Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish (from Lautapelit.fi); and (from publishers still to be announced) Chinese, Greek, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, and Russian. (The Lautapelit.fi edition will include components and rules in English, but it cannot be sold by the publisher outside of Finland and Scandinavia.)

In The Quest for El Dorado, players will take on roles of expedition leaders searching for the land of gold located in the jungles of South America. Each player will need to assemble and equip their team with just one goal in mind, reach the golden boarder first. The player with the best tactics will be rewarded as winner of the game! Game Components

Players will need to have a strategic plan, expert explorers, and the appropriate equipment. All that’s left to do is choose between the scout, the prop plane, or the photographer. Now make sure to find the best route through the South American Jungle and race to win El Dorado! The Quest for El Dorado Gameplay Prognosis: a forecast of how the game will likely fare in my collection, and perhaps yours as well.

If you have "leftover" power, you may use it to continue moving to the next space. The same 2 requirements apply, but you first subtract the power you already spent from the played card's power value. But regardless of who you move or where they land, the moved explorer always gets placed on the dark side of the space they occupy. This means they cannot be moved again… unless you roll a 2. A 2 lets you move any explorer 2 spaces (even one that is currently in darkness), and there are 2 faces of the die can give you this result. The weakening of the first player and rewarding of the second player is an important incentive that often convinces folks to give up on the first dibs prize and wait for the remaining one. The row will be cleared out and refreshed, and both point tokens will finally be earned if the second player can maintain their new position at the top until their next turn. Every player gets one turn to roll their dice, exploded dice end up in the middle, and the highest roll that did not explode takes all of the dice that were rolled (whether they exploded or not). Play any number of cards from your hand to (A) move your playing piece and/or (B) buy up to 1 new card for your expedition. Aristocracy is an interesting title in Reiner Knizia’s ludography. It was released in 2019 by publisher Tasty Minstrel Games—one of their last titles to be released before they went bankrupt. Obviously (and unfortunatly) Aristocracy wasn’t a big enough release to save that sinking ship.

Treasures of Nakbe streamlines and simplifies the strategy of Winner’s Circle by simply dealing one secret card to each player that displays the three explorers they are invested in. The goal is to help those explorers race to stay ahead of the competition as they run from the dreaded guardian who ever closes in on them. With no bets being made and no probabilities to analyze, this game offers a much more family-friendly experience while still keeping things interesting with the game board interactions along the way. The path to El Dorado leads through different types of terrain: landscape (green, yellow, blue), rubble (gray), and base camp (red). Much like the original, the game has a traditional Indiana Jones setting, so there are some mystical elements (see the front cover). However, the game is primarily about exploring the jungle with machetes and boats, finding treasure, and so on. I don’t find anything in the game particularly inappropriate for younger children, although the complexity of the game led to the publisher suggesting 10 years and up on the box. El Dorado straddles the line between an approachable family game and an enjoyable game night game with ease. It is simple enough for younger players but with enough options to keep hardened gamers involved! The worst thing I can say about the components is the cards are those mini cards rather than standard sized, and though I understand the space-saving reasons for using them they just don’t shuffle or play as well as regular cards. The Best of El DoradoImportant: You cannot combine multiple cards to move onto a landscape space with high power value! Special Spaces I won’t go into the full gameplay here because it’s so similar to how I explained Family Inc. But the gameplay differences are notable, as I find myself preferring them as well.
