About this deal

This is my least favorite of the series so far (yes, I gave them all 3 stars, but if Goodreads let us rate on a 1-10 scale, the others would have 7 and this one would just have 4). Above Suspicion: Lynda La Plante's younger, sassier successor to Prime Suspect The Telegraph. 30 December 2008 The rest of the office is pretty much ignored beyond there are other officers working there. So I never really felt I got to know any of them and they were barely distinguishable from each other. One female can't get a sandwich without tomatoes, the other female isn't made to get lunch, one male has a newborn baby and the other male does not. investigation takes them to a drug dealer who disappeared 10 years ago but is still on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. Her first TV series as a scriptwriter was the six part robbery series Widows, in 1983, in which the widows of four armed robbers carry out a heist planned by their deceased husbands.

Lynda La Plante was born on March 15th 1943, in Liverpool, in the UK. She is the author of the Anna Travis novels, but she is best known for being the creator of the Prime Suspect TV series, which has been on TV for a number of years. Wrongful Death– Six months ago, London nightclub owner Josh Reynolds was found dead. Ruled a suicide, the police investigation was closed. Then a young man, awaiting trial for armed robbery, tells his guards that Reynolds was murdered and that he has information to share. DCI Anna Travis is scheduled to leave for training at Quantico, as part of an exchange between the Met and the FBI. But before she can leave, she’s got to review the case thanks to her boss, DCS James Langton. Joining her team is senior FBI agent and crime scene expert Jessie Dewar. In recent weeks I have become interested in the career of Author Lynda La Plante. I am finally getting on board with her critically acclaimed and award winning TV series Prime Suspect. I thought I might also watch Above Suspicion but why not read the book first. Angered at being passed over for promotion to commander in favour of the younger, less experienced Sam Power, Langton heads the investigation into the murder of temperamental, promiscuous film star Amanda Delaney, who was seemingly about to embark on tell-tale memoirs. Langton and Travis are interested in a crucifix found on the corpse which did not belong to the victim.

Midgley, Neil (12 June 2008). "ITV to reinvent Prime Suspect". The Daily Telegraph. London . Retrieved 25 December 2008. Her America trip rapidly approaching, and the Reynolds investigation more confused than ever, Anna realized she had to make a decision – leave Dewar in charge, and hope she didn’t mess things up, or forgo her once in a lifetime opportunity at FBI headquarters. What would she do? These are two best books in Anna Travis series by Lynda La Plante, Above Suspicion and The Red Dahlia. While there are issues with this novel, it's still a decent addition to the Anna Travis series for fans of police procedural mystery/thrillers. There is a good crime novel in Deadly Intent, but the book has too much filler, too much soul-searching drama, too much detail, and too many loose ends. If you're looking for an easy-to-read, frothy beach read, than look elsewhere.

Anna Travis Books Overview

They eventually have an affair, at one time living together while Langton recovers from injuries suffered on a case. Needless to say, the relationship was a failed one. The feelings of love eventually become a great affection and trust between them. La Plante’s influence on the crime drama genre cannot be overstated. Her strong female characters and gritty, realistic depictions of police work have inspired countless writers and filmmakers. She has also been an advocate for women’s rights and has used her platform to raise awareness about issues like domestic violence and sexual assault. With the murder squad’s newly renovated headquarters looking much better than had been expected, DCI Anna Travis gazed around on her return from a welcome break – a holiday which had left her tanned and relaxed. As each of her team members arrived, they were told to expect DCS James Langton for a meeting – he had a special case which required their attention. It turned out to be a case which had been closed six months previously, deemed suicide. A prisoner awaiting trial had told a guard that Josh Reynolds had been murdered – DCI Travis was put in charge of finding out the truth. Well, Deadly Intent is a little different to the rest. But you can bet that the author is already typing away at a new adventure.

Reading, as I do, rather a lot of crime fiction in a year, it's normally possible to find something positive. In the earlier books, even in the last one I finished, Travis was a good character who could lift a book's ranking, even one that has a flawed plot, or a lot of filler, or some daft red herrings. In WRONGFUL DEATH, however, she's not strong enough for that much heavy lifting. If you love Anna Travis series, you will find “ Tom Thorne” Series by Mark Billingham and “Joe Plantagenet” by Kate Ellis a great match for you. Tom Thorne series features a main character named Tom Thorne, a detective inspector based in London, England while Joe Plantagenet features a London based Detective Inspector Joe Plantagenet. What Is The Next Book in The Anna Travis Series? It also seems like we're supposed to believe that Anna sees Langton as possibly her one-true-love, yet she appeared to be on the verge of breaking up with him in the previous book before he was injured (and long before the aforementioned abuse). DEADLY INTENT is the fourth book in the Anna Travis series, made up of ABOVE SUSPICION, THE RED DAHLIA and CLEAN CUT. It's been a series which I've really enjoyed... up until this book, which I have to say disappointed. Each book (this one is # 9) follows cases, some cold, some not. Anna has to prove herself to the team and she does so brilliantly. She sees things that others do not ... she's like a professional problem solver.

Anna Travis and James Langton return, and must work together to capture one of the most terrifying killers they have ever encountered. Langton allows Anna to spend an evening at the ballet with the prime suspect, a handsome actor on the brink of stardom. A discovery at the place where one of the victims lived helps Anna set a trap. Meanwhile, sparks fly between Anna and Langton.
