Description

There are 4 main types of roof bars and they differ in the way that they attach to the car. Different cars use different methods of attachment. Roof bars for cars with solid roof rails: Again, most commonly found on estate cars the 'solid' roof rail pictured below is a more modern version of the raised roof rail. They tend to be found on cars from roughly 2006 onwards and are flush with the car roof, ie there's no gap between the roof and rail. It's fair to say that if you are carrying a load of bikes on the roof there will be wind noise, but a good set of roof bars will minimise it. The rubber strips you removed from the roof of your car in the start may need to be shortened. The length required is typically noted in the roof rail installation instructions. Measure the strip and mark where it needs to be cut before you do the actual cutting.

On most vehicles, this can be done by hand by pulling on the strips to raise them from your vehicle. Once a section of the strip has been lifted, you can remove it by pulling it towards the front of the vehicle. Raised roof rails have a slimmer profile and are rails that have a space between them and the car. These aren’t as popular these days, but you can still find them on wagons. In terms of functionality, they work using the same principles as other roof rails. When we were choosing a set of crossbars for our personal vehicle, we spent our own money on the Yakima JetStreams. The company's more than 40-year reputation, limited lifetime warranty, and high-quality, innovative products tipped the decision over their main competitor, Thule.

Yes, really because they allow you to carry more, and they'll be much quieter than square-edged steel bars. These are the main practical reasons for choosing aluminium bars: style>
