Oricon (in Japanese). Archived from the original on September 18, 2021 . Retrieved September 11, 2021. What I liked the most about this manga is that both Kyomoto and Fujino were both working together and apart from each other yet striving for their personal goals at their own pace. relationship feels natural as they push each other to become better artists and expand their personal boundaries; becoming better versions of themselves. Watching as they find comfort and safety in one another is also portrayed beautifully, with Fujimoto utilising scenery to really convey the emotions that the characters are feeling. Establishing Character Moment: Fujino is first seen humble-bragging about her skills as an artist, but also mentioning that she has no desire for an entire career in manga and prefers athletics. This sets up how Fujino ultimately has no passion for drawing beyond her pride and making Kyomoto happy.

Armor-Piercing Question: The one-shot ends with Fujino admitting her disillusionment with drawing in general, but an unknown voice then asks her why she even bothers, then. Notably, Fujino's answer is never given, setting up the Ambiguous Ending. Fujimoto was born on October 10, 1992, or 1993, [a] in Nikaho, Akita Prefecture, Japan. [5] He started drawing at an early age. He had no preparatory schools available near his home, so he went to painting classes in which his grandparents attended and practiced oil painting. [8] He graduated in Western painting from Tohoku University of Art and Design in Yamagata, Yamagata Prefecture in 2014. [9] Career [ edit ] Hodgkins, Crystalyn (January 17, 2022). Story - The story is fairly simple, Fujino loves to draw for her school's newspaper, everyone in her class adores her art, then her teacher tells Fujino that another student would also like to submit a comic strip for her school's newspaper. Kyomoto, the new newspaper artist stuns the class as Fujino gets jealous since her arts is barely average compared to Kyomoto's. Soon both of them meet and pair up, writing manga together. The story isn't complicated at all and tells a story of two manga artists coming in the same school newspaper. They became friends and worked together on one-shots and did pretty well. When the chance for a serialization came the characters parted ways .The protagonist accepted the job and the other girl got to art school.Later on we learnt that she was murdered in a terrible incident that happened there. The truly shattering scene is when the protagonist visits her old friend's room and starts imagining a different timeline ,where she saved her friend and they worked together again.Life goes on and so returned to her work that was on a hiatus. Suddenly, Fujino remembers a time when they were walking in the snow, before having their work serialized. Kyomoto had lamented about not being fast enough but Fujino happily told her that all she needs to do is improve her skills. And Kyomoto took those words to heart, eventually enrolling in art school. And I thought to myself at this point halfway through the book “Holy Shit, what is Fujimoto going to do with this?” And what he does is some of the most impactful visual storytelling I’ve ever read. present in this work is a strong sense of pace. The pace of the exchange and progression of minute moments. It is this element that makes the story feel quite immersive when following along and definitely helps with the overall clarity.

Interest Stacks

On the other hand, manga leads to months of despondency, a working life that, while successful, leaves the creator isolated, alone, overworked, and depressed. And, of course, that moment that shows that manga can change people’s lives for the worse, as well as for the better, and end lives rather than save them. The story also ends with the question “Then why do you draw?” which is never answered and the final image is a sombre one, perhaps suggesting that Fujimoto himself regrets becoming a mangaka. Or maybe the silent answer is “destiny” and that’s the answer as to whether the previous scenes were real or not - we can’t change our paths in life even if we want to. The biggest gripe I have is the character designs. Fujino and Kyomoto look slightly different as kids because they have different hair-dos but otherwise are identical. Then there’s the time jump and it’s not immediately clear who we’re following, particularly as they now look like the other character but aren’t. Fujimoto is a gifted artist but he really needs to make his characters more distinct than simply giving one slightly longer hair than the other, particularly if you’re then going to give a different character the exact same cut as the other character later on down the line! It’s so unnecessarily confusing. it is about regret and it is about dealing with these feelings of regret and coming to accept that the past can not be changed, no matter how hard one tries. A review of the online edition was previously published on WWAC as well. one can do the utmost effort to explain it to others without ever making them feel half the way one does. Unless, of course, you're a genius like Fujimoto. We know him for his weird scenes, crazy humour, great storytelling and his often depressing stories... so this feels, at least for me, new. Personal. Chainsaw Man, vol. 11] (in Japanese). Shueisha. Archived from the original on March 3, 2021 . Retrieved March 3, 2021.The second half of the book is a condensed retelling of the first. Exploring the earlier symbolism, this half focuses on Kyomoto. For the price of their childhood collaborations, Kyomoto’s life is saved by a Fujino who, having given up manga, focused on karate and uses those skills to prevent the massacre. Along with illustrator Oto Tōda, Fujimoto published the one-shot Just Listen to the Song ( フツーに聞いてくれ, Futsū ni Kiitekure, "Listen to Me Normally") on Shōnen Jump+ on July 4, 2022. [33] Influences [ edit ] ok first of all, I don't remember when is the last time I got goosebumps this much. and it seems that those of you who are reading this review also don't want to know about my goosebumps records and maybe thinking "wtf is this broken grammar anonymous dude talking about", i hope u guys didn't. Creator Cameo: Fujimoto's editor and partner-in-crime Shihei Lin can be spotted having left a comment of praise on Fujino and Kyomoto's first one-shot.
